Rear speaker wiring

I have a very early (1990 built) Mk3 CL Coupe, I'm assuming rear speakers were an optional fit when new as there are mounting points in my car but does anyone know weather the wiring will be in place already? I can't find it and I'm not too keen on having to add my own wires unless It's really nessasary.

aparently only the G40s came with the rear speakers, I can't find any wiring in mine either. But then again maybe I'm just not looking har enough

i have had a good look around my '91 CL coupe and there seems to be no sign of wiring for them. I'm gonna fit some when i get them time.

Its optional across the range, my blue GT had a 4 speaker radio, but my black one didnt. Putting speaker wiring in is pretty easy anyway...

hey, i'm currently looking to fit new speakers in the back, the wiring isn't there! if ya look at the back of the block that is on the back of the head unit (not the ISO adapter) there are no rear speaker cable, only fronts (well thats how it is on mine n e way). so the plan is to use the wires on the ISO adapter to connect to my own wires that will run down the car.

by the way, does n e one no where the wiring loom for the rear lights etc. runs? would be useful to know cause it might be easier to run the wires down the channel where they are!

I did look at the back of the head unit today but none of the wire colours seemed to match those in the wiring diagram. The rear lights/hrw etc runs (I think) along the left hand side of the car. It exits just above the seatbelt mounting in the boot.

There were no rear speakers in mine, and no wiring. I can recommend some speakers by Pioneer, designed to fit in the shelves beside the parcel shelf. I have some 2 way 6" x 4" speakers there.

funny u should mention that, i just put in some new front speakers, i got pioneer 87mm ones. i only got em because of the size but when they came through, they were vw fitment!

Could you tell me the model/part number of those front speakers please? I was looking at some Blaupunkts of similar size but something that I know fits would be much better

If you go for 8cm speakers, you can't go wrong with the fronts. With 8cm, no cutting is needed, and the grilles will still fit. Mac audio do some very good speakes that are ideal for the mark3.

If it helps, my mk2's rear speaker wiring, which I believe was factory installed, is simply run from the back of the dash underneath the carpets, underneath the back seat and up to the speakers in a slightly worryingly bodged sort of manner.

For some reason mk2's didn't even come with front speaker mounts, had to cut holes in the door cards for them.. VW obviously noticed how stupid they'd been when it came to the mk3

I had those pioneer 4x6 ones in my mk2, they wernt too bad but Ive now got some kenwood dualmags (also 4x6) and theyre the nuts! All I need now is some infinti Kappa's for the front (by far the best 87mm speaker money can buy - 35W rms or something silly) Ive got sony ones in the front at the mo any theyre poo!

all mk2s had rear speaker radios. There is also a third speaker in the top of the centre of the dash. (it looks like an air vent)

Naw, never found any existing wires when I did mine (and those rear mounts are only good for 6x9s or small circular speakers - bleh!).... just route the wiring under the footwell carpet, placcy bits of the sill seal, under the carpetting/door & rear trim cards, etc, til you reach the boot. Getting it connected at the front and then neatly tucked behind the dash/down to the door is the part that'll give you the biggest headache - i still haven't got it to properly stay in place on the passenger side (because i'm too tight to spring for some more electrical tape - the specialist carpet tape styled stuff with the stronger adhesive than the usual lawnmower-cable-repair garbage
