New and have a problem

Hi guys New here and have just bought a 9n 1.4 16v s

trouble is I'm getting water in the boot and the rear washer hose is split and all the water is pissing out of the floor under the car. the rear passenger foot well is not getting wet but it seems there was so much water in the boot from the last 2 days down poor the seats even got wet. I have put some Vaseline and silicone around the rear light seals but it seems there are no seals around the bolt and the spring clips (can these be got any where) need to see if thats worked but i think im still mopping up after the first batch of water in the boot.

Is there a a guide on how to replace the washer hose to the rear or just fix it.

There should be a foam gasket under the fixing stud, and under the two clips - all gaskets get stuck onto the light cluster. My problem was, VW dealer, at MOT time, replaced a bulb and lost the gasket under the stud, so, a few years later, when I went to check the condition of the amber indicator bulb, the plastic wing nut would not come off - eventually I ripped the stud out then get the plastic wing nut off, cleaned up the stud thread (rusted up) and glued it back into the light cluster.

I think that there is a rear cluster gasket kit available from VW but what that includes I don't know - someone must have ripped the two clips out then!

There should be lots of guides to sort out that hose etc on http://www.seatcupra.net (Ibiza 4) and http://www.briskoda.net (Fabia) as they are all the same platform. Maybe join both these forums as well as the one your are currently on as there are lots more fixer-owners on these two forums.

One other thing to look for, when the rear wiper is sweeping, check that the washer spray nozzle is stationary and pointing upwards - if it rotates, that can be fixed with a repair kit from VW.

the rear lamps seals are available from vw as a complete kit...i.e 1 kit per side..
nearside kit is V6Q0998145
offside kit is V6Q0998146...each kit has enough seals to do 1 x complete lamp...
i think they were around £8 per kit..my mrs polo had the same problems with water ingress into the boot/wet rear seats..renewed all the lamp seals and not a problem since....

Cheers for the help guys. Will look into a new gasket kit just to know it's done.

I have pulled the boot to pieces now and it seems there is a split in the last piece of hose going to the washer nozzle. As its all bound up I think we will just run another pipe and disconnect the old one. May try and take some picks of the process fir the forum.

If the pipe's broken there, check it doesn't move with the wiper... They seize up on these cars, and the washer just ends up following the wiper arm. It shouldn't - It should point straight up the centre of the screen. If it's following the arm, it's not worth trying to fix the existing parts (trust me - I tried!) as a rebuild kit's £30 or so from VW.

Just thought it'd be worth a look before you reattach the boot trim panel!
