Re: New Candy White GTI owner
Well guys, really sorry it's taken so long, but the weather has been awful and I haven't had much time free.
But finally got round to giving the car a good clean this week and got some decent pics, also put my new wheels on but not hugely keen so they may be going for some Matt Black XXR 527's, as I want to fill the arches a bit more than these do, only had the car 4 months but done loads to it so going to list the stuff I've done first then post the pics up after that, so here goes, hope you're all a patient lot, ha....
Standard Spec of my car :-
Usual GTi spec plus..
* Xenon Headlights inc DRL
* Heated Seats
* Multi-Function Steering Wheel
* Climate Control
* Cruise Control
* Panoramic Sunroof
* Rear Parking Sensors
* Tinted Rear Windows
Since owning the car I have done the following, all fitted myself as I don't trust anyone else ha, tried to list it all in order of fitment..
* Richbrook Black Anodised tax disc holder with 'GTI' logo
* Alloy Footrest with Red vinyl 'GTI' lettering
* Tinted front windows to match the rear quarter-lights
* Custom Pipercross Induction Kit (no pics as of yet as the engine bay needs a clean, sorry!)
* Black leather Arm-Rest pad with red stitching (got this off Ebay, its for Golf Mk4's but the armrest pad is exactly the same as the Polo 6R)
* Genuine VW Silver Accent Window switches and Mirror control knob
* Genuine VW LED number plate lights (No error codes with these on my car)
* Newer style Climatronic unit with White graphics on black background
* Genuine RNS 315 stereo with DAB, built-in Bluetooth and Sat Nav (had this instead of the RNS 510 simply because I love DAB radio, much easier to use too!)
* Fitted genuine VW microphone which has enabled hands free and some limited Voice Control options controlled by the steering wheel and MFD
* Fitted genuine DAB / NAV roof antenna, with genuine cables etc...
* Yellow Lamin-X foglight film
* Re-painted Brake Calipers with Foliatec caliper paint and applied decals
* Tarox F2000 discs all round with Strada Pads
* ATE Super Blue Racing fluid, as my old fluid was poorly bled by previous owner
* German type stamped metal number plates
* Kufatec footwell light wiring harness and Genuine VW footwell lights
* Full white interior LED bulb upgrade
* Weitec Hicon GT coilovers, removed adjusters on the back to get maximum drop, still have 25mm ish left to drop on the front if needed
* 7.5J x 17" Team Dynamics Imola alloys, finished in Gunmetal and drilled from blanks, ET37 Offset
* 205/40/17 Falken FK452 Tyres
* Richbrook Gunmetal valves and 'VW" logo dustcaps
* Custom made (by myself) 'GTI' centre caps
* 15mm TPI Spacers fitted to the rear with extended Tuner style bolts to match front
That is everything I have done up until now, I have fitted some custom made GTI side decals today, there are pics of that seperately below.
Hope you all like the pics, sorry I haven't got them on sooner, if anyone has any questions about where I have bought stuff or how I have done some of the things please feel free to PM me and I'll do the best I can to answer.

Re: New Candy White GTI owner
Now for the side 'GTI' decals, took inspiration from the new Porsche Cayman R graphics. Did originally put the 'Polo' lettering on to kind of look like the Porsche letters but I preferred how they looked in GTI.
Done them in matt black as I am planning on switching to Matt Black XXR 527 alloys, else I'd probably have done them gunmetal grey to match the wheels. Done these myself after tracing an outline for them onto the car itself after applying Matt white vinyl to the lower flanks, scanned them, then traced them and modified the design to say GTI.
Have my own vinyl cutting machine, so it doesn't really cost me anything except for the vinyl, going to wrap the back half of the roof in Gloss Black next to match the Panoramic Sunroof. I welcome comments, good or bad as I know everyone has their own take on this kind of stuff.

Not been much of a fan of the 6r till seeing this. Like what you've done with it.

Re: New Candy White GTI owner
That is a really awesome looking. Liking the OEM mods too! Quick question though buddy, I'm wanting to add footwell lights to my SE 6R. If I bought the Kufatec loom and two light units from VW/eBay would I wire it up to the separate map reading lights so the can be turned on individually or would I just wire them to all three? How would I go about wiring them? Any help appreciated!

I originally wired my footwell lights in according to the instructions from Kufatec which recommended wiring them to a Pin (can't remember which off top of my head) on the CECM. It was rubbish though as the lights stayed on all the time with the key in ignition even whilst driving which was distracting at night. I extended the wires and took them up the drivers side A-Pillar and wired them up to the power feeds for the main light unit up front.
Doing it this way, they dim properly when you start the car up and drive away, and them fade back up to 'on' when you stop the car and remove the key from the ignition which is just what I wanted. I didn't write down the connections but I think it's quite self explanatory once you've dropped the main 3 light unit from the rooflining.
Hope that helps a little? Think you were along the right lines anyway to begin with.

Thank you, that helped me get a proper understanding of what to do... So will just need the Kufatec loom, light units, three different coloured wires to lengthen the loom and a few t-tap connectors to connect them them to the three light unit and bobs you aunty?!Ben@dubstarz wrote:Thanks for the kind comments.jimbo_tdi wrote:That is a really awesome looking. Don't know if you can tell yet but I am an OEM fanatic... I was also thinking of getting the chrome light switches and wing mirror switch from OrientalParts but at $99 just for the drivers side I think I'll hold off for a little while before pissing away money ha.

Think it's only two wires for the footwell lights from memory actually, a ground and a positive. I used t-tap connectors yeah, much easier, I usually like to solder everything to make it look OEM but it's a bit tight up there really. Bet you're like me then, wrapping all your wiring in Tesla black fabric tape? ha.jimbo_tdi wrote:Thank you, that helped me get a proper understanding of what to do... OEM + is the way to be, same myself, generally don't like too much aftermarket stuff when it comes to styling and interiors. Get the light switch, window and mirror switches from VW, much cheaper! I have an account with TPS (VW) and get a little discount, I can get you a price if you let me know what you're interested in via PM?
As for the mirror switch, I bought the chrome switch from VW, with the intention of cutting off the knob and somehow bonding it to my existing Polo mirror switch as the surrounding part is a different shape to the Golf Mk5 / Mk6 one I bought. Actually found the knob pulls off both the Polo one and the Golf one and they're a direct swap! Bit hard to pull it free but it does work, just a useful tip!

Re: New Candy White GTI owner
Haha yes I even wrapped that stuff around the LED number plate light wiring as they were rattling a little whilst driving... Everything must be neat and Germanic ha. Interesting fact on the wing mirror switch, may try and find a cheap Golf 6 one on eBay if that's the case,mdont know why VW left that black as I think it kind of makes the interior feel like its lacking something. Thanks for for the heads up on parts buddy... Will get a PM sent shortly!Ben@dubstarz wrote:Think it's only two wires for the footwell lights from memory actually, a ground and a positive. Hey mate,
Love your car. Tell me, I have the normal A/C heater knob controls, can I retrofit the climate control you have?
Where did you buy from and how much?

As far as I know you can't retrofit the climate easily, you need sensors and extra motorised flaps that control air flow etc.... so it's not a cheap retro-fit.
It must be difficult as I had my old climatronic unit on ebay for £45.00 and still can't get anyone to buy it at that price, it's going to be a paperweight by looks of it. I got my newer black / white one from TPS as I have an account with them but it still cost me in the region of £240.00 which isn't cheap by any standards.
Hope that helps, Ben
