TDi Servicing

Hi All,

My 1.9TDi has now done about 17.5k miles and still hasn't told me I need a service. I know it's supposed to be between 9-19k miles.

When did everyone elses TDi's need a first service and how long beforehand did it start telling you? and whilst we're here - how much did you first service cost?

my first service was at 10k km which is around 6200 miles! i don't think you have to wait for the service warning light, it would be better if you consulted your dealer for your service plan. hope it's not too late now!

No, i'm on the variable servicing plan - whereby the car tells you when IT needs a service! the service sticker in the car says it'll be between 9-19k miles. I know some people have found that the car hasn't indicated it has needed a service until over 20k miles!

I'd get it checked by VW if I were you.

VW told me my car was on variable servicing and at 16,000 miles my car still did not prompt me to take it in for a service. Anyway, I took the car in at another garage for some warranty work and they told me that the car was in need of a service as it was actually set on the standard servicing plan.

The reason my car did not warn me was that the dashpod had failed, which was part of the warranty work it went in for.

Anyway they carried out a service for me but had to call VWUK to make sure they would still honour my warranty, they did but only because a component on the car failed so they were negligable.

Don't want to scare you but it's worth double-checking.

Thanks for the info Des. I'm going to give VW a ring to make sure.

Surely the car will indicate the need for a service whether on variable or standard servicing? My dash computer doesn't have a problem and has issued no such warnings.

Just looking on the VW web site, and the "Longlife Service Regime", as they call it, actually provides up to 30k miles without a service on a TDi engine!

I quote from an available .pdf document explaining it.

"All new Volkswagen cars (except the Lupo) are now manufactured with the LongLife service regime activated and the engine filled with longlife oil"

...it continues....

"Whichever regime you choose, the vehicle dashboard service indicator will remind you when the service is due........snip......up to a maximum of 30,000 miles or 24 months, depending on the engine"

So I don't think I need worry, although I will phone to be sure!

I've done 19K in my tdi and no light as yet, however, I do mostly motorway miles.

I'm the same, so I knew i'd be at the far end of the scale.

I did, however, phone VW to be sure and they assured me that I had no cause to worry and just to wait for the computer to tell me to come in. They said it could, in theory, be up to 30k miles although early 20k's would be more likely. They also said that the service counter will start counting down from around 800 miles. 800 seems like a wierd figure but the computer actually calculates everything in km.

Ok, so this is a petrol, but mine's just decided to tell me that it wants a service in 5,300 miles!

(Booked in it anyway...)
