New GTI Owner, P130 Error

Post by Chazaxl »

Hi,

Just bought the wife a 2001 Polo GTI as a run about. Soon after getting the car it is showing a Check Engine Light. My bluetooth ODB reports P130 which seems to be O2 sensor (Lambda?).

Can anyone confirm if this sounds correct and also where I might be able to source a suitable replacement?

I should have testdrove - the gearbox is a bit noisy too but will sort that in time ....

Thanks in advance.

Anyone, please?

There are threads about Lambdas - but P130 - also - can these not be cleaned?

You should scan it properly with VAGCOM or VCDS. Unless you have the proper codes from that, itll be hard to diagnose.

check the wires to the first lamba, they have a habit of breaking.

Thanks - I did - all look ok. Tried to get the plug apart with no joy. Wires look good - difficult to tell. What size spanner to get the sensor off with?

your better off with a proper socket for lamba's, even then I had to use heat.

But that will only work if the wires are cut - I want to remove and just inspect and clean.

How many posts before I no longer have to be administrated?

Proper lamba socket has open side to allow wires through, think mines a laser one.

Sensor off. Can see some of the part number. I can get 3.2 Ohm through one of the sets of wires (grey and red iirc), currently soaking it in vinegar to see if I can get it cleaned.

So, cleaned it in vinegar - reinstalled later to try - noticed when I moved the wires, the car would misfire. Found that someone has done work on the wiring - no obvious issues (I also cut the wires when taking off the insulation wire) - tomorrow ill redo the wiring - so hope that sorts it.

Possible to buy the car side plug with ~ 20-30cm of wire so that I can replace it properly instead of hacking someone else's work?

The plug will have a part number on it

You'll then need suitable vw repair wires to suit
