New Owner - 6N2 GTi - love it!

Post by kimbo »

I've just bought this nice little GTi with 103,000 miles from my next door neighbour.

I've just had it fully serviced including an aircon re-gas and MOT.

Bodywork's nice and shiny, engine pulls well, gearbox is good.

I was planning on selling it on and maybe getting a Golf tdi, but after reading a few enthusiastic threads on here, I'm wondering if I should keep the little GTi and spend a bit more on the suspension, tyres and a few little bits and bobs that might need doing and keep it, and think that I've got a nice little future classic ?

I imagine opinions on here will be biased (fair-do's), but have I got a car worth keeping, spending money on and holding on to?

Here are a few pics and thanks for your thoughts...

Ooo very smart example there. They're exciting little cars to own and drive, i've changed cars a few times but always seem to end up buying one of these again - that's a pretty unbiased opinion :)

I've missed mine ever since I got rid of it, and even after having a 9N3 GTI, part of me still wants to just get another 6N2!

That is a lovely little tidy example. They are brilliant cars to own and yes, they will be a future classic in years to come

Many thanks.

The more I drive this little red car, the more I love it and I've now decided to keep it. I always regretted getting rid of my red mk1 GTi.

I've just fitted two new front speakers with superb results, keeping the original Blaupunkt head unit. Next up are new shocks, top mounts and brakes. Oh and some 50-profile tyres as the 45-profile are a bit old and harsh.

45 profile are the correct tyres

50s can be used, but will put the speedo slighly out and can cause scrubbing if lowered.

Thanks for the info.
While I'm on, are everybody's posts moderated before they appear or is it just because I'm new?

Ha, okay, I'd better keep posting.

My aircon doesn't seem to be kicking in and my garage guess it might be the pressure switch. But they can't find it!
Any idea where it is please?

Your probably needing a regas

The pressure switch often shows as failed when the system is empty.

No, this was after completely re-gassing the system and the compressor still not kicking in, but they couldn't locate the pressure switch. I wondered if anyone knew where it was and if there was anything I could do to reset it or something?

Welcome to the Forum buddy.

Looks like you have a nice example of a GTI there, they are great little cars to own and drive plus you don't tend to see many around which is always nice i think.

The climatronic only activates the aircon above a certain ambient temperature. I had the same worry when i bought my GTI in the winter!

Thanks Joe - I'm not sure what you quite mean by that?

All I can tell is that the windows keep misting up on the inside when it's wet outside. That shouldn't happen if the aircon is working?

Aircon on most if not all vw's will not work if ambient temp is below 5 degrees celcius.
