03 polo Cat price!!

hi guys

Just got myself a polo, pretty happy apart from the fact that the cat needs replacing. I was prepared for about £150 for parts but what I wasn't expecting is £850!! At 1st I though the garage was taking me for a ride but when I asked my mate (Service Manager @ vw) I was told it was because of the model/year of my car!!!! He said I cant get the cat on its own and that the £850 is for pretty much the whole exhaust. Good Grief.

My question to you guys is how can I get this sorted without paying that amount of money?

It refers to that as 2nd cat, so presumably there's a manifold one too - they're about £140

My machanic has had a chat with a local Euro Car part fella and he confrims that they do not stock the cat for my car. He then referrred my machanic to another franchise (andrew page or something like that) and he said that he doesnt stock it either and that its a genuine part only! Has no one else had this issue????

Sounds like a nightmare!

I'd think you'd get a stainless one made (powerflow or something) for a LOT less than the big numbers quoted by the dealers. Worth a few phone calls. I'm sure someone on here could recommend a firm relatively local to you. (I say that, as some seem best avoided!)...

Yeah all sorted now had to have a full exhaust built for £350. Damn sight cheaper than £850 haha. Sounds good! I have another little issue my key fob is eating through a 2032 battery every two weeks, strange! Any ideas haha
