front wishbone differences
front wishbone differences
hi all.picked up a silver 2 door gti for my mrs last month and well happy with it...all except the front wheels seem to sit back in the arches and when on full lock the inside edge of the tyre rubs on inner arch.having checked a few other ones at a local meet on sunday it seems the wishbones are letting the wheels sit an inch further back.the car is lowered about 35mm with 14" vw bottlecap alloys so all sensible size etc.have looked at both wish bones and look like they have been changed in last 12 months so was wondering if there are differences between the gti wishbones and normal 6n2 ones???

Re: front wishbone differences
What tyres have you got fitted?
The wishbones are identical across all the 6n2 models - the GTI does not have a different setup.

Re: front wishbone differences
185 60 14s on standard vw alloys with 38et so shouldnt rub at all but for some reason the wishbones sit back in the arches
Re: front wishbone differences
car running 185 60 14 on standard vw alloys with 38et so should be fine but just hits on full lock and wheels sit back in arch.

Re: front wishbone differences
I think the tyre should be a 185/55/14. 60 profile sounds a bit big for that wheel size compared to stock tyres
There's no real way the wishbones could sit further in unless they are the wrong part for the car

Re: front wishbone differences
Its quite possible they are lupo ones
I, personally, would only use genuine parts from VW. That way you are guaranteed the quality, and a first time fit!

Re: front wishbone differences
Turns out that the sided ball joints were fitted the wrong sides...was done by vw dealer as well !

Re: front wishbone differences
Once the ball joints are swapped or replaced it'll need the tracking and probably the camber setting up mate.
Re: front wishbone differences
Its in for all that anyway this weekend at my local protyre as lowered the coilies slightly.used them for few years now to set up my track cars and spot on.
