Front mount intercoolers on ebay

Post by Oobadooba »

Has anybody used these before? Seems like a good price and comes with all fixings and pipes. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120942738863? ... 1423.l2649

It's a fair bit smaller than the Seat Sport or Forge ones, that said i'm sure it's still pretty good!

I'm not sure about the masses of extra pipework needed to route the single-pass back though. That kit would be brilliant if you also picked up the passat inlet manifold (which points the opposite way to the Polo one) and route the pipework back up the nearside of the car. Less pressure drop with a single pass. Easier said than done as I think you have to relocate the battery etc.

For the money though it's definitely a winner over the SMIC, and the other options are like £500+ once you get the pipework together..

What power are you running / aiming for? The stock SMIC is adequate up till 165bhp.

I'm currently running 160 bhp and 275 lb ft. I am seriously considering getting a pd 150 turbo and mapping to around 190-195. Should be safe at this. Just can't justify spending £500 on an intercooler. Don't want to change the clutch and flywheel either otherwise I would go down the hybrid route. 190 is more than enough though and would be a big improvement I think.
