After close inspection I noticed the offside arb is rubbing against the corner of the subframe. This could be why the bearing has started to come out. Has this happened to anyone else before? Was it your arb that needed changing.

If you mean that it has moved across and is now hitting the aluminium console, then yes, it has probably got a broken end stop. Have you tried to move the ARB from side to side, if you can then its the end stop that has come loose.

Ah, that sounds like some one has tried to "sort" it already, when the original ARB cracks/breaks its ARB end stop, it is quite free to move from side to side, in fact, when this happened to my wife's Polo, I fitted jubilee clips to keep it in place until it got sorted. Having to drop the subframe is indeed a pain as four wheel alignment tends to be lost and tyre wear can increase as well as car feeling a bit numb to drive. VAG provide a set of expanding/excentric dowells to allow the frame to be dropped and positioned exactly back where it was - ha ha, dealers don't seem to find them very useful and accept that "you" need hit for a four wheel re-alignement - ouch! This is definately a job that needs done along with the Cupra TCA rear bushes so that the costs are minimised. (both jobs easiest done with the subframe lowered).
