Polo Blue GT
Re: Polo Blue GT
Hi Faye and Norbeck
The BlueGT has reading lights for the rear seats. Sorry but it doesn't have the underseat storage drawers. I had one on the 07 Polo GTI and it was great and really useful. It is disappointing that the drawers only seems to be on SEL.
Also I think there is too much plastic around bottom of seat and on the door. I've caught my foot on both as I get in and marked the plastic, so I then have to rub it to clean it off.
I don' know why they are saying spec upgrade includes cruise control, the spec of the BlueGT has always had cruise control, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Also my car was new, but was in the country as dealer stock (so I got it within 2 weeks). Best idea if you are after a new one is to ask several dealers about their stock (and the stock for rest of country). Dealers can normally get a car from another dealer but will need to swap one of their cars. However if you already know which dealers have one, you don't need to worry about dealers swapping cars and go straight to dealer with the stock.
Also if you are a little flexible then you can easily get a car much quicker than factory order. I only wanted metallica paint and RCD520 but I got a car with winter pack and armrest. I hate the armrest, so when dealer said they could take it out it was a result and I signed on dotted line. Also the bottle holder is far more useful.
Hope that helps
Andy

Interesting point on the underseat drawers, our old basic spec S 6Rcame with underseat drawers and a 12V socket in the boot but with the SE we have now didn't come with either. Odd.

Parking sensors are standard now? I ordered mine a while back but build week is May 13th. Am I likely to get them included for free?b0rk wrote:
In terms of ordering bear in mind that VW have upgraded the standard specification to now include cruise control and parking sensors at no extra cost, which nearly new examples may not have had fitted. These where around a £500 cost option on orders before April.

Have you considered trade-in? I got a good offer for my car from Arnold Clark and as the wait for the new car is long that offer gets better and better the longer the waitFaye_Valentine wrote: I guess I'm just thinking that as I'm selling my car privately, I'll need the money I get from the sale of my car to go towards my deposit and I can't be without a car for 13 weeks, so not sure how I can work around that?
I'd also used carbuzz (http://www.carbuzz.co.uk) to see what prices dealers would quote for the new car and someone called Lucy from Listers was great in getting back with good prices and options, and obviously as a main dealership, they would also quote you a trade price for yours so you could negotiate from there. It's all via the carbuzz site so easy and no unpleasant face to face stuff! I didn't end up going with them in the end just because I'm in Edinburgh and I'd have had to pay delivery costs but if you're in England this wouldn't apply.
Finally, depending on the dealer, you may not have to pay much up front at order time (i just paid £100) so if you want to sell privately you'd not have to have the full period without a car.

Thanks nicster, but I'm selling my car to a family member. It's such a great little car I couldn't sell it to just anyone and it'd make the ideal first car, so it just seems to make sense. Thanks for the info about carbuzz, I'll check that out laternicster wrote:

I also got them to increase their original offer as my local dealer said they would match Arnold Clark so they sweetened the deal a bit more.

I've only ever bought brand new Toyota's in the past and the lead times have always been about 2 weeks and I've also always traded my previous car in rather than sold privately, but I spoke to someone yesterday who confirmed that I'd only need a nominal initial deposit to secure the car and I can pay the money from my car sale as a "finance deposit".
I'm really quite taken with the Polo. I think the A1 has lost this battle in all honesty. I pretty much have my heart set on the BlueGT now. I just need to get June out of the way and then I can seriously actually look for a car and maybe order/buy something.

Well we go on holiday in June so I can't afford to buy before then, but come July we'll be back and I'll have been paid again so the search will be properly on!Mart!n-GTI-DK wrote:I feel the same way... I've been to loads of Toyota/Jap car meets in the past, having owned Toyota's for the best part of ten years, does this forum regularly do a lot of local/national meets? I might be persuaded to pop along once my new car actually arrives
Re: Polo Blue GT
signed the paperwork on the Blue GT today as the 500 TA was collected by its new owner so collecting it Tuesday, sorry no pics as at the PDI centre
the free insurance offer wasn't on the Blue GT when I ordered so a bonus as they cover me and the wife for business use and saves me £350, whilst i don't get a year of no claims on current policy this only saved me £30 so bigger picture
appears its costing me less than i thought so big brake kit funds for my GTI 35 are secured and this can be spared commuting, its been fun but thirsty and full on
the question is will mrs w press the button on a mk7 GTI or is she getting June out of the way like so many others

Re: Polo Blue GT
With regards to the underseat storage and the 12v in the boot - my 6r "moda" spec has both of these... so it isn't just on the SEL spec.
Re: Polo Blue GT
Sadly for VW 3 months is considered short for factory orders, if you where to browse round the Golf / GTI / Scirocco forums you'd find people that have waited double that about 5-6 months is typical. GTI's, R's etc with the wrong set of options can stretch out to 8 - 10 months.Faye_Valentine wrote: 13 weeks seems a while. When I bought my Aygo brand new 6 years ago it was a 2 week wait.
As various other posters have pointed out you don't have to pay the full amount on ordering generally only a small deposit will be asked for. This could be as little as £100 or a much as £1000. My blueGT was £200 up front as a deposit which is my total "cash" contribution to the deal. Historically when I've been buying out right then I've paid £1000 down and full balance on collection.
Andy's point is valid that if your prepared to be flexible on spec something that's in stock or confirmed for production can be sourced much quicker than a factory order and don't be afraid to haggle for any bits you don't want/need to be free.
You'd be best asking your dealer if they've become free on your order or added at no cost if you didn't specify them. I know that on mine parking sensors remain charged.nicster wrote:Parking sensors are standard now? I ordered mine a while back but build week is May 13th. Am I likely to get them included for free?

I hadn't honestly checked if cruise was/is standard previously as it not something I particularly care about, but just assumed the VW press release was correct that it used to be charged for. I stand corrected thanks!

Re: Polo Blue GT
I've been browsing some of the online places, Orangewheels, Drivethedeal, Carbuzz etc and seem to be getting some really good quotes back so I'm leaning towards buying new that way, especially considering the prices they are giving me are the same prices they're wanting for a nearly new model - it just seems to make better sense to spend the same money and buy new. Add that to the fact I can wait (I don't want to, but I can!) and that seems to be the ideal solution really.b0rk wrote:Sadly for VW 3 months is considered short for factory orders, if you where to browse round the Golf / GTI / Scirocco forums you'd find people that have waited double that about 5-6 months is typical. Would it be very rude of me to continue to haggle even after one of the dealers via the sites above offers me a good price? I've always haggled historically when I buy new cars and usually end up with free option packs, free servicing etc. Is it still ok to ask for those things after they give me a price I actually think is more than reasonable or should I draw the line at the £2,000+ saving I'll have already made?
Re: Polo Blue GT
Of course not. If they don't want to do the deal then they won't but it doesn't do any harm to askFaye_Valentine wrote: Would it be very rude of me to continue to haggle even after one of the dealers via the sites above offers me a good price? By the way, there's a VW price increase due, got this mail in today from Carbuzz:
"We sent a message out last week confirming that all VW models will have their prices increased on May 1st (this Wednesday). If you'd like to avoid the price rise, please place an order on or before the 30th of April, which is tomorrow. All VW models and option prices will increase by 1% after then. By putting a deposit down before Wednesday, Volkswagen give you price protection even if delivery isn't for a few weeks or months. All the offers you have received on carbuzz so far are valid but won't stand after the 30th unless you've already ordered."

Yes I got that email too, having used Carbuzz for a quote a few days ago. I got a much better quote from DriveTheDeal though, so even with the 1% added on, it would still be cheaper to use them.
Re: Polo Blue GT
well collected the Blue GT today so thought i'd share a few piccies

really like it and love the colour, i tend to run my cars in but can say the car has lots of torque so very easy to drive, loving the seats, car needs to settle, some chrome tips and an oem bluetooth out of a Golf to integrate with the red nicely
