Looking at some Boxster twists which are a follows:
Front: 17x7 ET55, tyres are 205/50/17
Rear: 17x8.5 (is this 8j) ET50, tyres are 255/40/17 (why skinnier on the rear?)
I've tried www.willtheyfit.com a few times and I've worked out that I'll need 40mm adapters on the front and 60mm adapters on the rears... Is this right? I don't trust myself
Fronts are 7" wide, you could go with a 195/40/17 on them, I'd go with a 25-30mm adapter

I'm hesitant to take the tyres off as I'm on a tight budget, but I'll take this into consideration
Sorry I meant that the tyres on the rear are less deep (40 rather than the 50s on the front). May I ask how you worked out what adapters are needed? Thanks for breaking it down I'm a total newbie at this!
You'll never be able to use the standard Porsche size tyres mate, sorry. Your standard tyres (assuming they are 15") will be 185mm wide. That means if you were to use the Porsche rears you'd be using an extra 70mm tyre width.
Also remember, the middle part of a tyre size, (ie, the '40' on the rear you mention) this is height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width, so 40% of 255mm is 102mm sidewall height. This is the same as the front (50% of 205 = 102.5mm)

Ohhhh I see! Thanks for the advice, you've helped a lot I was wondering, what about if I get a puncture and need to use my spare?
Rolling radius/circumference of a 15" wheel and a baloon tyre and a larger wheel with low profile tyre will be about the same so no issue using your standard spare.
Just make sure you carry your adapter 'tools' in the car so you can remove if required

If you use 30mm adapters, you will be reducing the offset to 20mm. Which will mean the wheels will be sticking out past the arch. I have wheels with 35mm offset and they are at the arch.
Personally, I would go for 15mm adapters (giving you a 35mm offset), but these are quite slim and doesn't give you much thread to secure the wheel. So I guess the choice is yours, maybe you should look for some wheels that go straight on.
The rear tyres are way to wide for your car. I think 215/40 are probably the largest to go for, they are standard fit to the 17" Boavistas, etc.

I think your talking b****x (no offence C17LJR). Where did you get that info ? My tyres are 215/35, so by your calcs, the sidewall is about 75mm - rubbish !! I always thought it was a direct measurement. i.e 215/40 (40mm sidewall) 215/35 (35mm sidewall), etc.
I mean just read what you have said. A 215/40 tyre will have a 102mm sidewall ???????? That's a 4 inch sidewall.

It's a lot of effort to get these to fit I know but bambaaaa has done it. I would go for a set which fit directly but they're far more expensive than a used set of Porsche twists and the ones I'd like are simply out of my price range. Thanks for this advice though, I would have bought the wrong adapters otherwise!
Edit: mind you I just saw you sold a set of boavistas with tyres for £500?!
