Here in good ol SA - the TSI polo's are very very very rare, whereas the 1.6tdi is rather con

my bud has a 1.6 with a mild phase one tune and it goes like the clappers - he did admit though that he does give it a good bootful one a week as to not aggitate the DPF but he is laughing all the way as the car is frugal...he is rolling on 17 inch profile tires with the vw eibach kit and even when he is hitching something it doesn't feel as if the car slows down all that much, even uphill :?

Other than the DPF acting up (which can be sorted if you give your car a good bootful now and then) - nothing else to report...

He spec'd his one good as well Tornade RED with GTI wheels :? , RNS510, PDC, Pano roof, leather heated seats, tineted windows, towbar  -

Short version, I love mine. Changed from a seat altea 170 2.0tdi. So far so good, had the polo for 9 months and its been trouble free economy motoring. Fill up is £55/£60 and I'll get about 500 miles and I do mainly town driving.

However it's not quick. Turbo lag is evident if you are driving economically (I wouldn't say I'm careful with my right foot) but it can be good fun if you do let the revs go :) I'll be investing in the shark remap, some good write ups on briskoda forum about it. Dpf is an issue, but I advise the same as other posts, a good drive on the motorway or boot it here and there and it should be ok.

Only thing I can't do is give you a comparison, I've never driven the 1.2tdi to compare.
