Bigger front brakes!!

Post by cooz93 »

I know there's many threads on here about brake upgrades, but what bigger brake setup is a straight swap? I.e just changing caliper carriers pads and disk? Instead of having to change hubs lines etc? Is the tt front brake setup a straight swap like some are saying for the 9N3? I want bigger brakes but don't want the hassle of too much f'ing around!! Any input would be great. Cheers

If you have a Gti or a 1.9 tdi 130 then you'll have the correct hubs to accept 288mm or 312mm discs and carriers/calipers from the Golf, Audi TTs, Octy etc, they all bolt on.

Any other model will need new front hubs, it's put me off upgrading the brakes on my 1.9 tdi 100 :(

Perfect! I've got a pd130 so will be a straight swap. Couldn't be bothered changing hubs etc too much hassle! What's a recommended set up? Or are they just as good as one another?

PD100s are indeed 256mm at the front.

Yeh the rears are a simple swap to 256mm (just have to cut the guard off) but like i said in that other thread, it just isnt worth it imo

Would something like this be any good?

Looks about right? Just worried about clearance as I'm only running 16's?

Yeah they'll fit, a lot of people buy them off that guy. I just bought some used carriers and calipers off an audi tt then wire brushed and sprayed them, worked out a lot cheaper but was a bit of work and time. Depends if you can be bothered! And yeah they clear 16" alloys, looks really good as there's a very small amount of clearance.

Would golf mk4 1.8t brakes, 288 disc basically be the same as the set up I have?

Yeah the 288mm brakes are exactly the same as you have at the moment. They gave the 312mm brakes to anything that had more than 150bhp. If you want to spray them up your self etc.. You need something like this >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Group-312m ... 2a2d7ce169

Just make sure that they are off either a mk1 Octavia vRS, mk1 Audi TT, mk1 Seat Leon.
