Thank you guys for the warm welcome. Im sorry to hear about your troubles bluesilk. Im sure the dealership will take care of you. I also found the start-stop function hard to adapt whilst driving the golf. I guess it'll grow on you in time.
Id love to get some detailed input on wheels tho. The car sits with 215/40 r17x7 as stock. The stock offset on these are et38 (correct me if im wrong)?
What would be a good 18" dim for this car? Should I go with 7" or 8" alloy width? What offset? And what size tires to complement each of them? I do NOT want any tire stretch, as this is the most hideous thing that meets my eye.

Road noise doesn't bother me but then I'm on my 5th Polo so I'm not used to having something more refined!
Each time I get a new car I always make sure I set the GALA feature so that the volume increases with the speed of the car.

I'm a bit confused with the Blue GT. I know it's meant to be a frugal sporty car but I think it's a bit steep compared to a GTI. Ceertainly in the UK.

The Fogs are standard here in Denmark even with the bi-xenon headlights.
And the GTI engine is more powerfull yes. But there have been maaaaaaany cases of problems with the chaindrive that stretches and ruins the engine...
The engine in the GT is part of VW's new range of engines where they are going back to beltdrive. That's a BIG plus in my book and a key reason for why I chose i BlueGT.
The GTI has both turbo and supercharger (don't know if it's called that in England) where the GT has only Turbo. But it's a new type that spools differently so the engine has the same torques as the GTI.
The GT is the better of the two in my oppinion.

And for some (no offence to any GTI owners meant), the Monza alloys of the GTI have been done to death and its one of the reasons I went for a new Golf GTD not a GTI as the alloys in my option are much nicer on the GTD. Also, a number of people prefer a manual box rather than DSG which is mandatory on the GTI but optional on the Blue GT.
Personal opinions of course.
To be fair, whether its a GTI or Blue GT, for a Polo, they are both bloody expensive !

I completely agree with the above.
I was looking for a DSG polo but wanted one of the new TSI engines. In the UK there was no choice other than GTI until the Blue GT came out. I could have imported a 1.2 TST DSG from Ireland but it worked out at over £22K!!!!! I didn't really want the extra power of the GTI but when I compared costings it just didn't make sense to me to go for the GT as I'm a very low mileage user.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my GTI and think the Blue GT is a bloody good car as well. Actually when you look at the quality and standard of equipment in both and then compare to other manufacturers they're not actually as expensive as they first appear.

You could/should be happy about your prices!! In Denmark the BlueGT goes for 34187 Euro with 4 seats!! And thats before equipping....

Ouch. Mind you it must cost a bit to move the steering wheel to the wrong side

I didn't even consider the GTI given it has dsg and can have a thirst for oil, also not what I wanted in terms of need, in reality low road tax, reasonable economy but something a bit sporty, I've got two Golf GTIs to play in for fun
Originally I was going for an A500 abarth but dealers were shocking, running costs were horrendous and whilst I loved it it was flawed as a Luke warm hatch, over 3 years I was better off with the Polo despite the higher purchase price

Our BlueGT has been delivered and we pick it up on Friday, Would love to know where to get some exhaust trims? We added lots of options when we bought it 3 door 6 speed manual, Blue silk, Blue speed, Multifunction steering wheel, Air conditioning, convenience pack, Winter pack, RNS315, Rear tinted windows, fixed price service, 4 year warranty, semi rigid load liner. I am hoping the fuel consumption will save me around £60 per month. Getting quite excited now!

Collected my ex demo today from Avon and Somerset way. A long drive back in poor road conditions and weather that was unpleasant. Car is now minging and covered in insects and diesel splatter from the hgvs ahead. Having said that I found the Polo solid and refined and I think I am going to like the fuel costs after the GTI. A weekend of cleaning starts here!
