A couple of little updates:

Got me some standard bumpers, decided not to go smooth this time around and see how I go. I can always smooth them if I want to later on. The grilles, fogs, washer covers etc will be used from the other bumper. Apart from the bottom middle grille which is smashed in after the crash. Hopefully the splitter is ok but i haven't taken it off yet to check if not i'll get a new one.

Got a MK5 boot handle mechanism, the wiring is there so it just needs set up. Also need a new badge for it. The rest of the boot will be fully smoothed.

Image

Going to get the bumpers on at the weekend and get the handle on as soon as i find a badge.

More updates soon once these bits have been done, including wheels and paint colour

Yeah thats defo something to consider because they do look a bit faded sometimes.

Can't wait to see it finished!

About the MK5 handle... Does anyone know which other badges will fit it because apparantly the MK5 badges corrode amd get that white worm which is a nightmare to sort out.

You need a late spec mk5 badge or a mk6 golf badge alternatively

My edition 30 had the late spec one which didn't suffer with the corrosion as it was completely different and like the mk6 badge.

Get a normal size badge and ask the body shop to clear coat it completely. Will shine up and won't corrode.

Iv done it to loads of friends bmw ones....

My Mk5 Golf is a 2008MY and the boot badge is still like new.

Is that a whole piece of golf boot lid BTW? I'm looking at doing the same mod myself.

Could do, just thought it might be easier getting a brand new badge from another model. They don't sell the mk5 badges separate either so it will be second hand anyway

Hmmm so it might just be some badges then if yours is ok. No its just a cut out section, just enough to work with.

The older style badges are much like the vw center caps. They are ok till chipped then the white worm sets in.
