Delay wipe + central locking

I recently bought a used 2002 VW Polo 3 door as my first car. It has 70,000 miles on the clock so obviously I'm not expecting perfection (although, it drives very well).

There are two main issues I wish to address, if possible. Using the delay wipe sometimes causes the whole wiper system to stop working. If I turn on the delay wipe and it works, it will be okay, but if I turn it on and it doesn't work then the wipers do not work in any position from then on until you restart the car. What could be causing this issue?

The other problem is with the central locking. When I hit the 'lock' button inside the car on the driver's side, it lock all doors on the car, but then 2 seconds later the passenger side lock pops back up.

Any help on these issues would be appreciated!
