Top Mount needs changing - is this OK?

Post by foodie9n »

Hi Guys

The car when in for a service last week and I've been told it needs a new top mount on the front passenger side.

I've noticed that when turning at low speeds and/or when on full lock, there is a creaking noise and loud 'clicking' from the same area.

Would this be a suitable replacement even though its labelled for a 9n3 GTi? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140988280940

Thanks in advance,

Mike :)

I'd expect that it is only the top bearings that are causing this problem, they are not protected at all so get curd thrown at/into them. If I were you, I'd replace both sides, you will (need) new damper top nuts and any bolts you remove. Are you removing the complete struts or trying to get away with doing a bit less work?

I'd recommend doing both sides as well, I had one side go and just had that side replaced then a month later the other one went.
