What Retrofits are possible?

Post by OSailesh »

Hi guys,

I am brand new to the site and have had a little look around, especially in regard to the question in the title.

I recently bought a second hand 2009 Polo 1.4 SE (I think its pretty similar to the match, but do not know exactly if this is the case) and I was wondering what retrofits were possible.
The main things that I was looking into were

-RNS 510 (I am pretty sure this is fine, as i have seen multiple places on this and other boards, but verification would be nice)
-VW MDI (Whilst I did put the 510 above this the main way I listen to music in my car is through my phone)
-MFSW & Trip Computer (I haven't seen much about this other than on gti's and was wondering if it was possible, it would also be pretty helpful to control my phone stuff)
-Bluetooth kit

Yeah I am just getting started here and would love some input about; possibility, availability, and prices.

Thanks in advance.

Yes all those retrofits are possible :)

They do get progressively more complicated though. RNS 510 is very easy, just plug and play. MDI is a little more involved but should be possible to OEM standard just with the module and cradle. MFSW and Trip Computer is relatively complex and although fitting the parts isn't too bad the VCDS coding will require a specialist with the right kit. Bluetooth module is the toughest as you need to dismantle large sections of the interior to wire it in along with the microphone etc.

Pricing the RNS 510 seems to be £300 - £400 on eBay. MDI and Premium Bluetooth will be another £100 each. The cluster will be £50 - £100 and steering wheel about £50. So all in all for that lot probably £600 - £750, plus any additional wiring and parts like the gps antenna to fit. If you need help with fitting EddieGT is the go to guy with very reasonable rates and he knows his stuff.

My only worry is although you end up with a very nice Polo (and yes SE is equivalent to Match), you'd be spending around 10% of the cars values on extras but not actually adding to the car residual value. Worth bearing in mind if you're not planning on keeping the car too long as could prove expensive.

Hi, have a look at my thread titled retro-fits,

I would say almost anything can be done and Eddie-gt is the go to guy , I have had all the bits you ask about done by eddie and it was cheaper than factory ordering with the car,you cant spec rns-510 either only 315 .

Eddie will advise and guide you through the process he has access to brand new parts at great prices as well
