GTI Ordered! Any tips i.e. oil, plugs e.t.c?

Hi all,

After driving a standard Polo S as my first car for the past year and a half I have finally been able to get myself a new GTI ordered

I've read the forums and see there are a few things that people are doing such as changing oil and spark plugs too for higher reliability. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I read that the older engine code was problematic with oil and this was changed, so mine should be the latest engine.

So if anyone has any tips please let me know!

After hearing it could take 3 months for delivery I said let's do it, but they found one to the exact same spec I wanted already on the ship to the UK. Lucky or what?

After being told on the first visit it's typically 3-4 months build time, they then found out one to the exact spec I wanted was on a ship from Spain to the UK and it had no-ones name on it, so I prepared for a 5 week wait!

Then, just last week I got a call saying it was due in any day and to get ready to go down and sort out the paperwork before pickup, so I went down today and get to pickup on Wednesday! I couldn't even see it as they said no-one's allowed in the compound, but having it cut down from 5 weeks to just 2 I can't really complain for a brand new GTI. Very very lucky....

It had to have the Bi-Xenon's on the car, the standard headlights are pretty naff looking and it really transforms the look. I wanted a sunroof too but it's only the looks I like with it, not a practical item for the UK!

Looking at an RNS510 retrofit now, didn't quite fancy 1K for a Kenwood system.

This just happened to me was told approximately 15-16 week wait for my polo r line. . And then was told when putting deposit down there is one due in, samw spec how I wanted it, beginning-middle of october! So thought sweeeet and purchased can't wait! Have fun with the GTI you keeping it standard or any further plans?:-) (dojt know much about the engine but the situation was the same as mine)

Awesome feeling isn't it! Saved me many weeks of nail biting haha!

The car's awesome compared to my Polo S. Whether it's down to it being a newer model or higher spec I don't know but all the buttons feel nicer and more solid, quality.

At the moment I don't have any plans. I have considered the genuine lowering springs but would need to see an example before doing it and don't want to sacrifice comfort.

Re: lowering, it does make it look better, but I've already scrubbed underneath when going a little too quick into my drive, so I'm keeping mine stock.

Personally I think it looks lowered enough and to lower it let's say 10mm I don't think it's a justifiable cost? Even on my standard Polo S the front splitter did it's fair share of scraping!

I do however think around 10mm width on each wheel to fill out the arches better could look good though?

After oil reach 88degrees, drive it hard till the redline in 1st to 4th gear and use engine braking by selecting the DSG M mode to slow down the car but keep the revs above 4000rpm. DO this daily! It will break in your engine properly and reduce oil burning. IF possible change oil at 1000km and again at 5000km using 504/507 specs oil

Car looks awesome mate. Welcome to the world of the Gti absolutely love mine still, 3 years on. I battered mine from day one and upto this day I've only ever had to top the oil up 3 times (done 30,000 now) I have the Vw (eibach) lowering springs on mine. Looks wise makes a huge difference to the stance of the car. Does catch speed bumps if you don't quite get it right but really does hold the road well and doesn't compromise comfort at all. But I would buy them direct fro eibach like I did, far far cheaper enjoy it mate.
