Faye - I also considered the A1 sportback sport, but the biggest negative was the rear seemed cramped, both from a rear view and sitting in it. With the seat at my driving position, I can easily sit in the back of the Polo, I had nowhere near as much room in the A1. Drove nice enough though.
Yes, I really liked the A1 Sportback, but it was a no brainer to get more or less the same car at more or less the same price with better spec, better economy and cheaper to run. Plus the BlueGT is quite a bit more exclusive if you check hornmeister's link

If the car's awaiting shipment already you could get it faster than 4-5 weeks. My car's not scheduled to be built til the first week in October, yet the dealer has told me we are still on course for an October delivery. *fingers crossed*

Well, I just took delivery of my new Golf GTD, and from build completion to delivery to my dealer took 9 days !!!

Admittedly, my car was built at VW's German Wolfsburg plant, whereas the Blue GT's are made in Spain, but even so, it hopefully won't take that much longer ?

My dealer told me the BlueGTs are built in South Africa.... (well, that's where mine's coming from, apparently!)

I've just filled the tank of the pug so 9 days would be fine. I think I'd better stop filling it up if it's only potentially a couple of weeks away..

I was told Spain for the blueGT too, I guess we'll have some idea when it lands in the UK - and I get my phone call to contact the insurers.

An aside note.. Can you claim partial refunds for insurance you already have once you cancel it as a general rule? Mine runs to end May next year. Pug never came with insurance and I think the Clio one did but that's going back nearly 13 years (I keep my cars a fair while)...

IIRC all 5 doors are South Africa and all 3 doors are Spain apart from the GTI which is all Spain regardless of Doors. The 5dr GTI takes a bit longer as its special

My 5 door Blue GT has just been built in Spain, it's in transit from today and the dealer says that it should be with them in 3 to 4 weeks! I thought they were made in South Africa too, but I'm told all BlueGT's whether 3 or 5 doors come from Spain

All three doors plus all Rline, GT and GTI are built in Pamplona.

Sounds like ours will be on the same boat. The tracker says an average of 4 weeks from this point... Given I live in the middle of the country about as far away from the sea as you can get, it might take that long..

Back from the dealer, and I have a new country to add to the list...

He initially said South Africa, but then after some discussion with another salesman thinks mine (5dr) is coming from Bratislava? Given he said it's got to go to Germany for QC, I think the 4 weeks is likely...

When I last spoke to my dealer, she told me that you're given tracking information for the car as it leaves the factory.... surely that tells you where it originated from?

If you check the 11th digit of your VIN when the car arrives, it will tell you where your car was built. My information is still that all 3 door and 5 door Blue GT's are built in Spain as the SA plant (that usually makes the 5 door Polo), doesn't have the tooling yet for the ACT engine assembly.

Anyway the list (shamefully stolen from another member on a Golf forum) is thus :

A - Ingolstadt, Germany
B - Brussels, Belgium
C - Chattanooga, USA
D - Bratislava, Slovakia
E - Emden, Germany
F - Ipiranga / Resende, Brazil
G - Graz, Austria
H - Hanover, Germany
K - Osnabrück, Germany
L - Lagos, Nigeria
M - Puebla, Mexico
N - Neckarsulm, Germany
P - Mosel, Germany
P - Anchieta, Brazil
R - Martorell, Spain
S - Salzgitter, Germany
T - Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (up to 1994)
T - Taubaté, Brazil
U - Uitenhage, South Africa
V - Westmoreland, USA (up to 1994)
V - Palmela, Portugal (from 1994)
W - Wolfsburg, Germany
X - Poznan, Poland
Y - Pamplona, Spain
1 - Győr, Hungary
2 - Anting, China
3 - Changchun, China
4 - Curitiba, Brazil
6 - Düsseldorf, Germany (Mercedes-Benz)
7 - Ludwigsfelde, Germany (Mercedes-Benz)
8 - Dresden, Germany
8 - General Pacheco, Argentina
