Radio Knob

Post by johnph »

The knob on my radio has become sticky and horible

Does anyone know where replacement can be bought. VW does not carry this as a spare part.

I have tried eBay and a general internet search without any luck. Other than a seller in the US, where the price plus p&p is close to £20!

Perhaps a part from another of the VAG family might be suitable.

Thank you

John

You tend to find that it is usually the French made radios that have this problem, I don't know the root cause, but it could be as simple as the previous driver using a lot of hand cream! The action of the one that has this problem, when cold, is also not as good as it should be, ie tactile feel when rotating it. I ended up with this problem when I bought a newish second hand radio for my wife's personally imported Polo, in the end I just got round it by swopping radios from my personally imported Passat, I had bought that radio new from a local VW dealer, at very great expense! If you are lucky, you might find a radio without security code for peanuts on ebay, warning, don't buy a radio without security code in the belief that you can get the code from VW for free, if it is code less and the donor car is not reg'd in your name then you will not get the code.

Thanks RUM4MO. I'm only looking to replace the push on plastic knob on the volume control. The rest of the radio is fine.

Cheers
