Hey guys, lookin for advice here.
I called up a VW dealer regarding a GTi they had for sale, she said it had gone but had a look on their databse for the same model under different dealers. She found a similar car at a different dealers and basically wanted me to put a non-refundable deposit on the car of £600.00.
I told her i wanted to see the condition and to drive the vehicle before laying a deposit down, after which she proceeded to twist my arm on how i wasn't going to find a polo if i didn't do it this way. I politely declined and now in hindsight im wondering if i made a bad decision. She started to get pretty pushy towards the end of the call.
Did i do the wrong thing? I'm in two minds about it, Im of the opinion that you have to drive the car before making a decision on laying out 3 years of savings. What do you guys think?
cheers
Did i do the right thing?

Dealers said the same thing to me when I was looking. nothing in Lincoln or surrounding area for at least 2 months.
Local VW garages told me they would get one sent from anotehr dealer but I would have to pay the £500 "deposit" if they did and the only reason I would be able to reject the car was if it was not in 100% pristine condition.
I was not prepared to do this and waited and waited. Eventually a car came up at a dealer approx 40 miles away and I travelled over to see it. It's perfect and now mine.
All I can say is I know how desperate you feel when you want a GTi and there's none around but wait and the right one will come up.
Also haggle with the dealers, I walked away twice from their deal and ended up getting £2K off forecourt price.
Buy at the end of the month this is when they are mosre desperate to meet their targets, and remember to ask to get MOT, Servie and RFL thrown in. I did!!!!
Happy hunting!!

Thanks for the replies guys
I'm just gonna be patient and keep looking, no rush to have it although it is frustrating calling and hearing "sorry mate, sold".
Oh yeh also, when i asked her if the car had had its pedal box replaced as per the recall she claimed there was no recall and that I had read the wrong information! Them dealers will do anything for a sale it seems

Why not just look on the www.vw.co.uk website and do a search for GTi's... Then go and visit a load of the dealers to view the cars...
It'll be cheaper than 600 quid to do that, surely!

Josh,
It was a VW dealer wanting me to put a 600 quid deposit on a car, because they wanted to buy it from another dealers. Obviously she wouldn't tell me which dealer it was so i could take a look at it
I'm a patient guy, i waited a while to get this cash saved up, so I dont mind waiting another couple of months to find the right motor.
thanks for the replies
