running at 70 degrees

Post by dantheram »

I'm thinking the stat has gone or is it going to be the sensor?

any ideas?

P.S. VCDS shows no fault codes

Are the rad pipes cool when running?

The temp sender may have gone as they can fail without any errors, though it's possibly the stat

Only use a genuine vw thermostat - the Gsf ones are absolute rubbish. I'll get a part number tomorrow.

Correct. Again only use a genuine part. Copy parts are truly rubbish.

Is there any way i can work out if it's the stat? i see you mention the rad pipes - if they're cool that would indicate the stat wouldnt it?

i'd sooner not be replacing things that are working ok.

P.S. Heater is blowing hot air

Checked the rad pipes - top is hotter than bottom after short drive, both are warm.

The car shows 90 degrees if left standing but as you drive the temp falls to 70. Looks nailed on stat to me

Alex, is it likely that the housing could be damaged? i keep reading about the little plastic bridge in the elbow of the housing being broken on other 6n's??

The 6n2 uses a cartridge style thermostat therefore the housing is very different. It's likely the stat has simply failed.

Correct - part number is 032121110C only £20+vat from VW to be fair - get one from your dealer. Genuine is always better
