Approved Accessories Questions

Post by aaronon »

Hey

I'm in vw for my service and found an accessories brochure for our Polo's.

Two parts have caught my eye.

Spoiler: £205 ; 6R0 071 646 GRU

And "Lowering springs" £309 ; 6R0 071 677 A

---

Does anyone know how low the springs are? Like how much closer to the tyre will the wheel arch appear to the outside viewer. I'm thinking about it as those springs are fitted in that price (though the spoiler is not. It's not even painted!

I'd imagine the springs to be about 30 - 35 mm lower than standard (slightly less if lowered from the factory depending on trim). Similar springs were available for he 9n which turned out to be exactly the same as the Eibach Pro Kit, but painted in blue with VW part numbers - probably cheaper to buy the Pro Kit, although the springs supplied by VW should theoretically keep our warranty intact if something goes wrong with the suspension side of things.

I'm really tempted! 3cm's might look a bit better.

Because they're official VW do you still have to tell your insurer? My company doesn't insure lowered cars so I think I might be stuck!

Really sorry... But I have to ask.

I have read several times in different topics that the insurance companies in the UK won't insure lowered cars or sometimes not if you have wheels bigger than 15" and so forth...

What's the deal with that???

I don't know.

I phoned AXA and said how much would my insurance go up if I got my car lowered and her reply was simple:

"We don't insure lowered cars".

So annoying :(:(:(

How do you guys in England have it so easy! I see like 17 year olds with Polo's lowered to the ground. Yet over here insurance is so expensive without even adding options of lowered ones!!

Depends on the particular insurance provider. Some of them won't touch modified cars at all. At the other extreme, there are insurance who specialise in modified cars, but won't be able to insure it if it "isn't modified enough".

And modified car insurance needn't be too expensive. The difference between insuring a standard 9n and a the same car with lowered suspension, 16" wheels, uprated brakes, bigger injectors and bigger turbo was less than £50 (per year) when I got quotes.

We'll I just did a theoretical quote including the lowering springs and it came to £700 so that's really not bad is it!

I selected the "Lowered by less than 5cm option".

Do you reckon the official VW Lowering Springs I mentioned would make any difference to my standard SE with 15 alloys?
That's practically my car.
