Re: Replace Rear Tailgate

Its fairly easy, but youll have to do a couple of simple things to get it working

Pull the old wiring out the new boot, with a piece of string attached so you can pull the new wiring back in from your old boot

Do the same for the central locking and washer lines

Once the wiring is disconnected, its a case of undoing the hinge nuts from the car side (under the rear headlinging trim plate) and removing the bootlid, then dropping the new one in place and tightening up and getting the wiring back in and connected

shantybeater on here did this recently - its worth PM'ing him for assistance.

Cheers for the reply mate, doesn't sound that difficult, I should be able to manage that . The only thing that's going against me is the bloody weather, rain until Saturday ffs.....might trade the GTI in for a boat lol

Frankoni, did you get your tailgate off in the end?

I started the same thing today but I couldn't find the 3rd brake light electrical connector. I've dropped the brake light down but I can't see anything? Thats all I need to disconnect now :?

Youve gotta take the spoiler off to get to the connector
