Play in gear lever

My polo is in for clutch this weekend and I thought it a good time to ask the question. When in gear there seems to be alot of "side to side" play in the gear lever. can this be resolved? ive read in a much older post that someone replaced parts 6N0711167A Bellows and 6N0711135 Ball Bush to help reduce "play" in the gear lever. Would replacin gthese make much of a difference? cheers

The polo generally has a sloppy gear stick in neutral

Wear in the cables on the ends of the bushes can cause this however, so get them checked

Replacing the ball joint may help if its worn.
