Console bushes

Post by panason1c »

Hi,
Not sure how to describe this but I hope someone will recognise what I mean.............I have just bought genuine VW original equipment front console bushes (the large/rear ones) and I see that there is a small rubber 'buffer' section on the inside of the bush, what is the position of the 'buffer' when fitting the bush?

PS.... I also intend changing the gearbox oil (5 speed)......... what grade oil do I use?

If you're going to do it,have a quick read...

so you don't end up doing it wrong and having to buy new bushes/tyres/tracking..

Just finished replacing the nearside console bush (VW OE bushes)....... I made up a puller with threaded rod (as per another article) to remove and refit the console bush which was relatively straightforward, the 18m bolt that holds the wishbone arm was solid tight and I thought it might shear if I forced it so I heated the console area up with a blowtorch whilst keeping 'undo' tension on the bolt, the bolt eventually loosened and came out ok. The wishbone fully entered the new bush quite easily with plenty of grease applied to the spigot and persuaded in with a push by my foot.

Just need to change the gearbox oil now....... I was going to use the Castrol Syntrans oil but at £12 per litre I thought I'd see how much VW charged for their gearbox oil, I was pleasantly surprised to be quoted £6.50p per litre!!

That's a good price for the vw oil. Normally it's more than that!
