GTi Brake Upgrade
GTi Brake Upgrade
Hey everyone,
It's been a while since I posted here, even though I read some of the posts.
Given the fact that by this summer I want to go all the way with stage 3-4 on my GTi, I want to be sure that I will be able to stop properly, so i've decided to do some research on brake upgrades.
I was wondering if any of you guys know if the Porsche Boxter 2.7L front breaks fit the polo. (16'' wheels). I spoke with Thomas, from poschecalipers.co.uk, but unfortunately he doesn't know exactly if the brakes will fit properly. He provides with the calipers everything needed to fit it on a vag car. ( http://porschecalipers.co.uk/uk/81/prod ... at___.html )
so, guys, i need your help with some advice. will those work ? do i need to change anything else besides the calipers, disks and the fluid pipe (which has been converted to work with vag cars).
cheers !

Re: GTi Brake Upgrade
another idea is the braking system from a golf mk4 r32, but i don't know if they will fit with 16'' wheels and i don't know if it is enough..
or the s3 1.8T, (seat leon cupra 1 / audi tt 1.8t) ... those are said to be bolt on...
any valid opinion is much appreciated ...

Re: GTi Brake Upgrade
if you go down that route Golf mk4 1.8t anniversary and Skoda Octavia vrs mk1 are other choices that just bolt on (you just need calipers, carriers, discs and pads)
dont quote me on this but with the r32 brakes i think you might need spacers to fit the calipers under standard 16's
not sure about the porsche brakes at all

Re: GTi Brake Upgrade
very good reference mate !
i wouldn't mind spacers, since i use the 16'' only during winter time and the care won't be raped during the cold season she needs tender loving in cold season )
the porsche breaks look interesting. unfortunately it kinda goes over the budget. i'll try to find some refurbished or second hand ones for now... (f'ing crisis )
further ideas are still welcome

Very nice, looks awesome. What does it stop like?scotty733 wrote:Thats my car
Are those Boxster S rears? What size wheels spacers are you running, if any?
Bespoke discs or 312mm x 25 thick as fitted to Audi TT ect?
Sorry for all the questions.
Re: GTi Brake Upgrade
Scotty733,
If they are Boxter rears then according to the VAG Brake guru Daveb1970, they are not safe on the front of your car, see the link below:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index ... 80.15.html
Go to the second page and have a read of Dave's explanation, above 50mph they are worse than the standard 288's

Re: GTi Brake Upgrade
Hi everyone,
Its been a reaaaaaaaally long time. 2 years maybe.
In the meantime, I made the "mistake" of fitting the same porsche boxter S callipers.
The thing is, 2 years ago I moved to France and after this fitment, I think the car has been driven max 2000km. The brakes seem to be working fine, but then again, I haven't been in that situation where to actually need them (i hope won't regret it ).
Therefore, I have decided now to bring the Polo to France, so work on it started again. I widened the wheel arches, so that the tyres won't rub anymore (I'm running 17x8j, et35 + 20mm spacers) and now I am really considering to do my homework properly before changing the brakes again.
This raises my question: does anyone actually recommend any type of upgrade kit ? (only the ones that have tested in comparison to the stock ones, please). My main concern now is to find something that will fit under these conditions, without having to change the wheel arches again.
Other combinations of wheel setup + brake kits are also welcome.
I attached a pic with the car, while waiting for the complete repainting after I modified the arches.
