3rd Time unlucky...
I've not had much luck with the CL - GT clocks conversion. I'm now 3 sets of clocks down the road, and all of them do the same thing. I'm stuck for straight forward options now
. Unless I can get hold of some late spec GT clocks from a '93 model. Failing that I wonder how easy it is to go after market and get something like a TIM one. I have no idea how to wire these up though, but anything to get a rev counter in the thing.

does the rev counter just fit where the clock was or is there some new fancy wiring thing.. ?
I mean, if you unplug the clock from the circuit board will a rev counter just fit in the holes and work?
if it does you could put your old clocks back in, but just slot in the rev counter instead of the clock....

we had to do this when putting those clocks on our mk3 dash conversions into mk 2s , perhaps on the mk3 cl the same appliestoXXin wrote:What's the problem with it? Is the rev counter not working?
If so, wrighty had the same problem on his white '93 CL. I'm sure he had to have a wire redone to get it working...possibly one that goes into the coil?

@deadcat: Unfortunately its not as simple as that, as the circuitry to support a rev counter is different to a clock. The rev counter did work, its just I'm still having problems with the oil pressure light and buzzer going off above 2k rpm, when my standard clocks don't do a thing.
@DanW: This last set were Genesis clocks I bought off D4VID. I thought trying Genesis ones would make a difference, but instead I just learnt that they are one and the same set of clocks.

Well, easy enough if you can find the wires to connect it to, you can find them on the connector leading to your current dashboard.. personally I far prefer built in rev counters, always thing that dashmount ones look a bit dodgy, plus they tend to be vastly expensive for what they are.. but that's just my thoughts on it
I'm sure you'll be able to modify a standard set though.

I hope so. I think the problem lies with what Gareth_GT_Hatch identified: The fact I only have one oil pressure sensor on my car, and the fact that GT clocks rely on 2. I wish VW hadn't decided to revise later models, as some things can be a pain in the ass because its a late spec. My thinking with the late spec GT clocks is that: If VW revised all the engines to use one oil pressure sensor, then sure a late spec GT will have one oil pressure sensor, and will have clocks compatible with my set-up too.

you need the engine bay wiring out of the doner mk3 to do it properly then you have all the correct plugs to swap over and solder onto your mk2 wiring loom it's alot of work but worth it to look goodGroovyCarrot wrote:Ooh, you managed to do that? Karl, I'll keep a lookout in the scrappies around here for late GTs for you.
