Car Choke
Car Choke
Hi All
Every time i start my car up, it will have the engine choke on as it idles at 1100-1200 rpm for about a minute
Then click and drop down to 800-600rpm.
Is this normal? It never did it when i picked the car up, now its every time i start it up.
Help?!

normal. its warm up
Re: Car Choke
Yeah its normal, its called a fast idle and will do it for a long period of time in cold weather, as for the growl since the car is chain driven its oil pressure fed and takes a few seconds for the oil to get to the top of the engine thats all. Unless its excessivly loud then theres a problem.

I get this alot on my BlueGT, but normally it happens to me when I'm leaving work after it's been parked up for like 8-11hrs but doesn't normally do it when I leave home for home for work when it's parked for a similar length of time.

Re: Car Choke
Is it a petrol or a diesel?
My van sometimes makes a loud GLA GLA GLA noise for a second when you first start it from cold. It has always done it, and it will not make the noise for months, then it will do it for a while.
Also depends on the outside temperature when you start from cold.
But if you are still worried, just take it in to the dealer and ask them to check it.

Car Choke
I have a 1.2 tsi, it doesn't do it all the time, but when I leave it over night or during the day at work, the first time I start it it's idles at about 1200, and then after about 20-30 seconds it dips down to below 1000 to about 800, I don't think it's anything to worry about mate. I think it's just like a fast idle to help warm the engine before setting off?
