9n3 fan linked to reverse?

Post by john.p.clegg »

Now please be gentle with me as I'm a noobie, quite pleased with my 2005(facelifted) 1.4 (think it;s an 9n3) but one thing is bothering me,when I select reverse the heater (or cooler if you wish) fan speeds up,...is it my imagination,is it a fault or do they all do it?
Thanks
John

Not your imagination - when you put it into reverse it automatically goes into air recirculation mode.

They all do it - its a measure so that engine fumes aren't drawn into the car by the heater as you drive backwards through them.

The same thing happens on mine as well and mine is a 9n 2005, just before the facelift model. Can't remember my old 2002 one doing it though :s

I'm glad I found your post. I'm new to owning a VW and my 52 Reg 1.2 Polo does this also. I thought I was going to have to get it seen to by an auto-electrician as I thought I had this weird electrical fault.
