Winding noise on starting 1.4 tdi

All,

Currently having various issues with the car.

As soon as it starts there is a noise of motor wind down that comes from the engine bay. Only happens for a few seconds after startup.

Cant tell what it is, am inclined to think its the alternator but unsure.

any help much appreciated.
