Don't disagree, I had one running 265bhp with minor mods, I'm just saying that you still need some pretty significant changes to get 300bhp!
Re: New Polo GTi
Remap, turboback, intake, cooler wmi and you should be close or over.
Look how crazy the MK7 is with just a Stage 1 file.

I'd class those as far from simple mods though, but take your point.jamacouve wrote:Remap, turboback, intake, cooler wmi and you should be close or over.

The 2.0 litre in the Mk7 Golf is a bit of a different beast, and seems to have a lot more tuning headroom even with just a map.
It will be interesting to see what people get out of the new 1.8t anyway.

Re: New Polo GTi
Isn't the 2.0 TSI with 220PS in the Golf GTI pretty much the same as the 300PS unit in the Golf R? If so I'm not surprised that you can get a lot more power out of it with relatively little mods.
Re: New Polo GTi

Re: New Polo GTi
Interesting what it says about the gearbox, and how the engine, when fitted with a DSG, has to be restricted to 250 Nm of torque from 320 Nm in the manual. Maybe they should have gone for the beefed up 6-speed DSG box, unless it doesn't fit!

Re: New Polo GTi
It seems a little odd that VW are enlarging the engine size of the Polo, where as other manufacturers are downsizing, but if they are gong to enlarge, let's go straight to a 2.0 tsi
That would be fun
Re: New Polo GTi
Maybe that's what the R will get? Seeing as the S1 has the 2lt, it shouldn't be a problem to fit it in the Polo.TheDoggingFather wrote:It seems a little odd that VW are enlarging the engine size of the Polo, where as other manufacturers are downsizing, but if they are gong to enlarge, let's go straight to a 2.0 tsiThat would be fun

Apparently VW could have put in a more capable DSG but the market isn't there.......disappointing.
Plus is it, isn't it, the Polo R back on.

Re: New Polo GTi
Disappointing to read that the R may still be 7 or 8 months away from launch, never mind delivery!
Mind you, there are some blinding deals around on brand new Golf Rs, so not surprising VW are pushing those instead.
A more profitable car, and pretty much bullet proof engine and drive train with it.
