BlueGT Camshaft part :(

Post by aniseedvan »

Couple of weeks ago my Oct 13 BlueGT suffered a weird issue whereby the 2cyl didn't kick in and the start/stop refused to work. This appeared to be a one off during a 2 hour drive to a meeting. On the way home after being sat for a few hours it was fine. However after 5 years of knowing my pug dealer far too well I figured it was best to get it booked in to see why.

In the meantime I've probably driven another 500+ miles without it happening again. Went in the garage today and a part in the camshaft needs replacing, so just waiting on that to come in, and a part engine rebuild

Anyone else experienced any issues? It was my only worry that the engine tech might be the part that's unreliable in this car...

The actual mpg over the year has been rising, it's currently just under 46mpg, I'm typically getting nearer 50mpg and just under 500 mile range now so it's not being thrashed...

Changing the camshaft is not a bit operation... So part engine rebuild is stretching it a bit... They basicly just have to take the timing belt off, remove the top cover, replace the camshaft, put the cover on again and refit the belt.

A 'part in the camshaft' is not the actual camshaft, it could even be the actuator which controls the ACT? Not sure which cylinder numbers the ACT feature works on, but if one is on cylinder 2 and it stopped working and stuck 'off', this would prevent cylinder 2 from working at any time whether ACT was on or not.

I'd find out exactly what part has failed before worrying too much :)

Just a thought.
