1.6tdi SEL

Post by Jay_6n2 »

Hi All

Been a while since i had my 6n2 polo! miss it alot

Currently driving an UP which im not overly happy with

Looking at a 2012 1.6tdi SEL 3dr which i can buy through my company ( i work for sytner )

How do people find this engine choice? I do 80 mile per day commute 90% motorway

Thanks in advance for any advice,

James

I test drove a 1.2 tdi and 1.6 tdi, the 1.6 was noticeably quicker, refined and quieter being a 4 pot compared to the 3.

Engine can be a little noisy when cold, but is what its expected from a diesel. You can't hear the engine on the motorway.

Fuel wise is great, I can do 50mpg 50% motorway/50%town if I drive carefully, but on average its 42mpg.

I have the 90ps version and sometimes I do wish there is a little more power but these can be readily remapped to 140bhp.

Ive bought the car now, not picked it up yet though

On test drive i see what you mean, noticably diesel on tick over but then very smooth once going, 1st gear is very flat though i noticed

Ive gone from a 75bhp Up! which was the noisiest rattly sounding engine ive ever owned, awful transmission on them.

Will upload some pics on here once the mods start :)

Have you had a remap on yours?

I find 1st gear a bit flat driving normally, but can spin the wheels even from 2k if I floor it. I change up to second almost straight away though, its torquey enough.

What mods you got planned?

Not remapped yet, with my dad owning a BMW I know a few BMW specialists, but I'm new to VAG. I've heard REVO are the go to people?

mods planned are.

Tinted windows (a must i haven't had a car without yet)
Subtle lowering, I.e. 25-30mm
Standard wheels refurb in black
Wind deflectors
RCD510
A change of bulbs front and rear.

That's my plans so far and possibly a remap, Although 145bhp isn't really necessary i would be happy with 120ish

I'm out of touch also with anything VAG, Im a service advisor for Volvo cars, So know everything volvo unfortunately lol!

500 miles done in car now, mpg is reading 65 so not sure how accurate it is..
So far so good really happy with the car , only downside is the front headlights are rubbish, hopefully some bulbs will sort that!
