My Car not starting ????? HELP

Post by jagjot »

I have vw polo 1.6 16v gti, MKV, year 2000.

24th Oct 2012 - Friday, I took my car to key cutter and I requested him to get second key cut for my car.

He took my current key and put it into his machine and cut another key. then he said he need to read the code from my comfort module to configure my key as key number 1. (then he took out my comfort module out and opened it and did something to it and he told me by mistake he reprogrammed. he apologized. ) then he couldn't start the car. the he said he will have to disable immobiliser chip from ecu for me to start the car. which I was not sure but I have no other option.
He took my ecu apart and took some chip out or something. and after all this he still couldn't start the car.

He tried many things changing the file on the chip etc. which I have no idea. and then he left me in the stuck situation and promised to fix my car on Monday. this guy completely messed me and my car up. I nned to go to work on monay cant wait for him to completely ruin my car.

then today I bought ECU, comfort module, clocks and keys with chip , o ring - from ebay from the same car. tried but car started for 1 second and shutdown. tried many times but no show.

I am stuck ; I need help.

I'll try and help, but others have more knowledge in this area.

As I understand it, the key is in two halves, one with the metal key, the other plastic part has the electronics for remote control.

The metal key portion has a small electronic chip on the inside of the plastic part. This contains the code that matches with the immobilser. When you put the key in the metal part allows the ignition switch to turn while the code from the electronic component is read by the o-ring as you call it.

For the car to start the o-ring needs the chip to be matched to the immobiliser, so unless you have also changed the ignition switch barrel over you have the old code being compared against the new immobiliser.

Try carefully removing the little chip from your original key and place the metal key head from the new set against the ignition switch and see if she'll start then

Good luck

You are right.
Car started. that was the problem..
but my engine management light is not showing up. when I turn my ignition to on. something wrong with the ecu - I just bought from ebay guy. and he is not returning it (its in his ebay policy).
probably I need to look for another set.

Thanks a lot....

Glad I could help, and sorry to hear of your continuing tale of woes.

Aren't you going to go back to the original guy and get him to reprogram your original key / immobilisor ?

I was looking at doing an ECU swap and found someone who had the ability to match a new ECU to the original immobiliser. Whoever does it is going to have to connect to VW at Milton Keynes and there's some forms / ID proof to fill out. In the end I decided against the ECU swap, which was the right decision as the ECU was not at fault.

I just lost trust in the guy. and beside he took some chip out of my ECU and comfort module.
just don't want anything in my car incomplete or far from original. but I will definitely check with dealer tomorrow for the cost.
