Newer cars come with a lot thicker underfloor insulation made of mainly rubber and synthetic based matting which is a lot denser. They also use a lot more deadening panels like dynamat to dull road noise.

I have done my whole car in skinz sound deadening and dyna liner. It works really well. It cuts road noise down to a minimum also sound system sounds so much better. Its not just the floor that is done.

All the doors, side panels and boot area is done in the skinz sound deadening along side with silent coat sound absorber (egg carton type looking and what they use in sound studios).

I think i used 3 bulk packs of skinz sound deadening material to do the whole car. Two packs of the 1/2 inch dyna liner and one 1/8 inch one for the floor and the silent coat sound absorber i used 3 packs of the sound absorber 35

Dynaliner is to absorb airborn noise and make everything quieter inside the cabin, it doesn't absorb water, so if you get a leak it's easier to get dry again

The front door with skinz sound dampening mat, and door cards with silent coat 4mm multilayer dampening mat and sound absorber 15 on top to stop airborne noise. Still got a bit of work to do to get them finished.
