Hi there Guys,

Just a quick update, my build week has now again moved, this time in the right direction and will be built on week 51 being mid December which again, still isn’t doable at my end. So now this build week has been as low as week 47 and as high as week 2. Crazy. I’d rather not know this in all honesty.

Dealer called me to tell me earlier about what’s been going on and it seems everyone is in the same boat who ordered in September which is lame and certainly hasn’t been explained to buyers.

@Tankmontana Any further news from your end?

@alanblakey1 - My dealer emailed me after being busy when I called and replied with a bit of confusing information. He said that they are still waiting for the factory to confirm the build week but that it's currently showing week six (as I was told over the phone by VW CS). He also mentioned he hoped this would come forward once the factory confirmed the production week, but I was told by VW CS that this was the confirmed date.

What I really cannot understand (despite asking multiple times) is why there is such an erratic display of the scheduling for a few of us and others seem fine. If there are no delays or issues at the factory, I don't see why a 12 week lead time is that unattainable. I've never ordered a car before so I can't tell if all this is normal, but I had hoped that it would be a more transparent process and getting information wouldn't be such task.

I've PM'd you the dealer I went with.

@Jamesbluegt - Thanks for depressing me a little more haha...

Just to update, I did my weekly VW CS call earlier and was told my build week was now sitting at week 51, although this is still unconfirmed. I mentioned the 12 week quoted time originally and she said that including delivery and week 51 as build week, it would result in a 15/16 week total lead time, which is well within VW targets of 20 weeks. She also mentioned that dealers saying 12 weeks originally were effectively giving false information and should have quoted much higher given demand (but of course they wouldn't). I've also come to learn that scheduling is supposedly done on the weekends, so calling either Monday or Tuesday will give you the most up-to-date information.

As things go and for anyone interested, below shows my potential build weeks so far and the weeks in which I was told:

1. Sept W36 - BW45 (At order based on 12 week lead time)
2. Sept W40 - BW45
3. Oct W42 - No build week
4. Oct W44 - BW6
5. Oct W45 - BW51

@alanblakey1 - Apologies for not sending that PM, I didn't realise it required 10 posts. I'll send that when I reach the mark but I too am interested to know who you went with.

alanblakey1 wrote: On a brighter note, Has anyone driven the 90ps TSI? My dealer only had them horrific 1.0 BlueMotion engines and one 110ps SEL so drove both and had to guesstimate what returns i’d get from the 90PS. Would be good to hear what it feels like!

I also think that this infotainment system has quite a lot on offer, I thought it was just DAB and good for bluetooth streaming but am I right in saying you can take calls through it to as well as it having a bunch of info about the car too?
Not yet tried the 1.2 TSI, but I'm going to test drive one soon hopefully. I've tested a 60PS 1.0, and it was horrifically slow, and not that economical (40mpg from cold around Manchester for about half an hour, I get almost that in my old 1.2 9n) because you have to rev the nuts off it to move! There's absolutely no torque. In my 9n I can change up at 2,500 rpm quite happily in traffic, without being slow. The 1.0 was struggling changing below 3,000 rpm in similar situations. I think it could be significantly more efficient, but you'd have to really try. I think that the 1.2 TSI will be more 'natural', and less stressed, and as such it may be able to deliver a better mpg.

The infotainment units are quite good. I had a bit of a play with it when I was testing the 1.0. It had nav, which seemed quite nice, although this is an option, and it was responsive and smooth to use. FM/AM/DAB radio, CD player (in the glove box), SD card reader, regular 3.5mm jack aux-in, and a USB socket (not sure what it can deal with, but I'd expect it'll work with Apple products and as a HDD on Android), and of course the Bluetooth system with streaming. The 'Car' button brings up stuff that you'll find in the dash cluster screen. I think there's a 'Blue Trainer' thing too, which aims to make you a more efficient driver. Seems like a good bit of kit!

Ordered new 1.2 TSI SE Polo in Mayan Blue with a sunroof on the first of September told by dealer it would be here for December 18th. Was finally confirmed as Build week 48 this week which makes arrival on the 18th seem unlikely. VW's online tracker is useless why can't we just have a weekly email showing the dealer information?

From my experience and generally speaking, for 3 door models it is roughly 4 weeks from build week to delivery at the dealer. 5 door models are 5-6 weeks as they come from further away.

Although, these times are dependent on weather and sea conditions.

Probably not relevant to OP, but here are the on-line tracker dates for my factory order, 5dr Blue GT manual:

Order placed: 30.07.14
On-line tracker step 2 email (order with the factory): 16.08.14
On-line tracker step 3 email (order confirmation): 29.09.14
On-line tracker step 3 email (order confirmation): 06.10.14
On-line tracker step 3 email (order confirmation): 06.10.14 - Note that I got three emails confirming the order (all with the same BW).
On-line tracker step 4 email (Build in progress): NO EMAIL for this stage
On-line tracker step 5 email (In transit): 11.10.14
On-line tracker step 6 email (Arrived in the UK): NO EMAIL for this stage
On-line tracker step 7 email (Nearly there): 07.11.14

Not heard yet from the dealer, but expect to do so later this week.
So all in about 15/16 weeks from placement of order.

Just a quick update to mention that I've now had my build week confirmed for Week 51 (14/12/2014), so I guess I'll tough it out and wait the two months till mid January and call it a late Christmas/early birthday present to myself haha. That's of course assuming mother nature behaves and doesn't throw any bad weather into the mix during transport.

I must admit that it's quite disheartening having waited two and a half months for an original three month wait by multiple dealers, just to be told I'll have to wait pretty much the same amount of time again now. Here's hoping that it's a great car!

Hi guys,

So i've just received my confirmed build week. Just waiting to hear back from the dealer now to see what's going to be done in the mean time to bridge me over. Will keep you's posted.

Any changes so far for you?

Cheers,
Alan

@tankmontana
Massive apologies, i'm such a forum rookie and hadn't seen that this has now went onto a 2nd page! I feel like such a docile idiot!!!

Well, as predicted, both our cars are being built alongside each other as i'm also w/c 14//12/14. Since my last post this morning I still have't had any updates form my dealer (Benfield Group) as of yet. I get the impression there is a lot of head scratching going on in relation to a courtesy car as my MOT expires the same week the car is being built, how handy :)

@Vc-10
Yes I completely agree with you about them 1.0 motors. The 1.2 I have in my VW Fox has a lot more torque that them nasty things and that thing is a bloody roller-skate! What a let down they were. Thanks for the info on the infotainment too. I really wanted to crack the volume up to see what the speakers were like but didn't even get to do that! They should be good, VW normally do a good job in that area..

@jamesbluegt - Congrats! Keep us posted here on out. Need to see plenty pictures too!

I didn't crank the volume much I'm afraid, but it seemed good from what I heard of it. I'm presuming that the speakers are exactly the same as in the pre-facelift cars, and they were fine from stock. Not amazing audiophile stuff, of course, but perfectly acceptable.

I looked up the torque figures- the new 1.0 is 70 lb/ft in both states of tune, while the old 60PS 1.2 had 80 lb/ft, and 70PS had 83 lb/ft. The older 55PS version had 78 lb/ft, and 65PS had 83 lb/ft like the 70PS version. 70 lb/ft is not enough in something as large as a Polo.

It's soooooo down on power it's not even funny. Users of that engine will have to be using more fuel off having their foot to the floor constantly to get anywhere! I remember driving it and just thinking it was horrendous. Good luck to anyone owning one of them.

Really like how discreet the TSI's are. Pull so well for such a small engine!

@alanblakey1 - Yep, hopefully week 51 doesn't get too much impact from the Christmas period. Do you think that mid January is likely?

Also, let me know how you get on with the courtesy car as I'm away for a month and giving my current car to its new owner the day before I leave, which means I'll be without a car for around 10 days when I get back (assuming delivery is around the 15 Jan). I haven't asked my dealer (Inchcape) about a courtesy car yet, but from my reading it's unlikely they give them unless it goes past 24 weeks.

@JohnNW - Thanks for the info mate, any news?

@Jamesbluegt - Congrats dude, any idea of when you'll be able to pick it up?

Any of you guys planned any mods yet?
