Help/info central locking door will not open

Hi I have just bought a Volkswagen polo twist 1.2 2004 the help or advice I need is the passenger rear door will not open at all I have tried to search the net but not found an answer all other doors work fine any thoughts or ideas would be good thank you.

Could be damaged wiring between the door and the chassis

Could also be a fault door motor. Our 9N3 had exactly the same problem and I had to replace the door lock mechanism

how did they open the door

Is the door pin moving up and down when you operate the button?

the black door pin does not move when opening/locking the car door

This might be best tasked to your local dealership/independent. Normally the door card has to be cut open so the door mechanism can be accessed - not the easiest of tasks.

Hi I can get the door card out also the metal fascia plate behind the door card but not sure what to do from there the cables are all connected but not sure if I should release any thing to open the door.

You would have to remove the metal plate - it's a number of 10mm bolts. You need to release the window glass first though. It is probably worth getting A haynes manual as there's a fair few steps involved.

The door mechanism is riveted to the metal plate.


If you can move the door pin solid metal bar after removing the door card, there's a good chance the door will unlock.

About 6 months ago, my front passenger door did the same, (it wouldnt unlock) I thumped the door with the palm of my hand in the lock area a few times while working the fob button and it suddenly unlocked and has worked normally since.
You've nothing to lose by trying my method!
