1.2 TSI issue?

Post by mark_09 »

Hi guys,

New to this forum so bare with me.

So I took delivery of my new polo 1.2 TSI on Thursday (First ever brand new car) and fell in love with it although what's happened tonight has given me anxiety issues.

It's been perfectly fine, run really nice and quiet but earlier I set off home and it was making an odd noise every time I had my foot on the accelerator. Almost like a really fast ticking noise. If I took my foot off it, it would stop.

When I pulled up on my drive I got out and had a listen and it was just a hell of a lot nosier than it was yesterday and Thursday. There was also a slight burning smell coming from it.

The only difference is that it was cold out there when I was driving it compared to the previous two days. Could this affect it that much?

Another slightly issue I've had and this could totally be just me, but I seem to have trouble putting it into first or third gear sometimes. It feels like it goes in but it doesn't and it ends up crunching.

Do brand new cars have this issue and the gear box needs 'breaking in' or something or could these be an issue?

Thanks.

Mark.

the ticking/fluttering while under acceleration is also an issue i have had on my 1.6 tdi, the dealer told me its not an issue but its still very disconcerting... and im not sure he knows what hes on about...
definitely take it into your dealer as your car should be under warranty if it is a problem!
good luck! (and enjoy your new car!) :D

The 1.2 TSi is a very "ticky engine" though it's pretty quiet on the move, at tick over you can hear the tick-tick-tick from the high pressure fuel pump that sits on the top of the engine. That said if you think there is an issue, get it straight back to the dealer.

Re:- the struggling to select 1st & 3rd The six speed box in mine is probably one the smoothest boxes I've experienced. I suspect as it uses cable-linkages it might just require a little fine adjustment. This should be a 15min job at the dealers.

If you're not happy take it back you've paid a lot of money out, it should be right.

1.2 TSI issue?

Get them to check your fuel lines - had my car 3 hours and everyone time i accelerated, it ticked really loud.
Turned out to be a fuel line too close to the engine and was vibrating off of it.

I found a little fix for that, it's in this thread.
