Glove Box damper / brake element

Post by 937carrera »

I have just realised my glove box shold be damped and not just drop down free. Having looked on ETKA the part number is 6N2 858 309.

Any idea how to check / replace this - is it a full centre console / glovebox out or can you get sufficient access by just removing the glovebox screws ?

The damping action is achieved by teeth on the arm of the glovebox door. These teeth run over a gear which has a set resistance. I've managed to get one of these working again without removing anything. It's likely that the teeth just need reingaging onto the gear. Try lifting/moving the arm side to side whilst slowly closing the door. With a bit of luck it'll pick up the damped gear inside and work again.
