Upgrading bulbs?
I've been looking at upgrading the bulbs on the Polo (1.2Tsi) particularly on the front. Now as mine is configured to use dipped beam and sidelight as DLR I was thinking about replacing dipped beam and possibly the sidelight bulb.
So a couple of questions has anyone upgraded the H7 (dipped/main) what have you used or recommend.
Also what is the fitment for the little side light? is it a 501?? If I switch them for LED's do I have to be careful about particular types??
I was thinking of using these for dipped.

I know they are only rated at +50% but as they are the DLR's and on constantly I was thinking about longevity.
Any comments welcome.

Re: Upgrading bulbs?
I have Phillips Xtreme vision in the high beam (+100%) which are decent! Just have some cheap xenon look low beam and sidelights (501) off ebay in at the moment which are okay, going to change them and the fog lights to mtec superwhites which seem to have good reviews. As for LEDS im not sure, although have done the full interior with them, which seem to be working okay and look mint!
Re: Upgrading bulbs?
I always use philips when possible. I prefer xtreme or blue vision myself. Never had an issue in previous cars but wouldnt mind turning the darn drl option off for the polo

Same here, I did enquire about it when I had the car serviced but they said it's a legal requirement post 2010/11 so wouldn't be able to do it.Mayhem wrote:but wouldnt mind turning the darn drl option off for the polo

I will have to hook up vagcom to it and have a look. Just means dealers wont turn it off, doesnt meant it cant be done

I'd also consider these H7 Nightbreakers from Osram. I've been running them now for the past 18 months in my current vehicle and love them. They've got the right balance with lifespan vs brightness plus they gave a lovely crisp white light.

Re: Upgrading bulbs?
Anyone know for definite whether the 1.2 TSi uses H4 or H7?
Looking at upgrading however some sites are telling me H4, while others H7. Sort of me taking a headlamp unit out and having a look anyone know which bulb type for definite?? (I'm not sure you can tell the difference between a H7 or H4 without seeing the rear of bulb and mount type anyway??)
Cheers

Re: Upgrading bulbs?
Depends on what headlights you have
This headlight takes the h4 bulb

This headlight takes the h7:

The dipped beam can be turned off from drl by insulating or removing a pin from the light switch

Re: Upgrading bulbs?
Lovely. My suspicions were they are H7 as I can only see a single filament, and the twin lamp headlamps use the second lamp as main-beam. I tried a couple of sites with differing bulbs being chosen so thought I'd ask.

Just thought I'd mention I've just upgraded my headlight bulbs to the Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited and they are an excellent upgrade over the standard bulbs. Mine are the H7 type in my 6r Match

Just happened to notice Eurocarparts, have them on offer at the moment. £17.99 for the H7 version.radiusone wrote:Just thought I'd mention I've just upgraded my headlight bulbs to the Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited and they are an excellent upgrade over the standard bulbs. Re: Upgrading bulbs?
Those Osrams are pretty good, had them fitted on my mums car, a clear difference next to normal H7 bulbs.
I've fitted MTEC cosmos blue bulbs to mine and LED sidelights to my car, see my thread:

for visibility the Osrams are a no brainer as although the MTECs look good, they're not that bright
