Boot lid problems

Post by tlines559 »

I think that there might be an issue with the wiring to my boot, here are the problems:

Top brake light doesn't work (side brake lights do)
The rear washer doesn't work but the pump makes noise when I try and the front washer & headlamp washers work fine
The interior boot light doesn't work - I've changed the bulb so it's not that

Now what does work:

The boot open light comes on on the dash so I don't think it's the microswitch for the boot light but I've bought another just in case and I'll change it out just as soon as I hunt down the right tool to remove the lock
The rear wiper works (although does this weird thing where it often doesn't find its home so keeps wiping until it does)
The central locking does indeed lock and unlock the boot

So any ideas on where to start looking first?
I intend to take the rubber boot thing off the wires from the body to the boot but I don't know what I'm looking for to be honest.

Thanks :)

Your washer bottle may just need topping up as the rear washer is the first to lose supply when it's low followed by the xenon washers. It could be leaking into your boot on the other hand so check for a damp carpet or even the rear left foot well. The wiper may be playing up as a result of the washer leaking into it so that could be all one problem!

The wires can break over time where they come out of the roof on the left hand side, pull the grommet out and check for breaks as that might have killed your LED brake light. Your central locking will be ok as its a pneumatic system.

I think (not 100% sure) that there are 2 different connections for the boot courtesy light and the warning light for the dash. IIRC disconnecting one of them and shorting the wires should bring the boot light on.

Hope some of that helps :?

Thanks, I'll have a look into this!
I know there is enough washer fluid, I tried to do the rear wiper straight after topping it up so it isn't that, I'll try and track the connection back and see where the leak is :? Do you know where the supply is routed? I'm assuming down the C pillar?

I'll have a look at the wiring tonight coming out of the boot and see if I can see any obvious breaks

Come to think of it though, there are that many electrical problems with my car it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't just another gremlin in the system.
On the off chance you know.. Should my car have an alert buzzer when the head lights are on and the driver's door is opened? It never has and I'm beginning to think it should!

On a 3 door, down the left hand side,it runs along the sill, over the rear wheel arch and then up the C pillar to the roof. Mine had separated by the wheel arch so it flooded the rear footwell as I mentioned before.

There is a lights on buzzer too, it lives down by your fuses and relays below the steering column.
