Hi, I've jumped over from the 6N2 GTI world as my Auntie has a 9n. Funny old thing, her rear wiper has packed up, not a concern as I've done the same job on my GTI, my A3 etc. I've ordered her a £30 one off the bay. The thing I haven't investigated yet though is a leak into her boot from the off side rear light cluster area. Has anyone had this? I had roughly the same thing on my 6N2 but the pipe ran down the nearside so it flooded out the rear footwell
Does the pipe run down the other side on a 9N then and if so, does anybody know if there is a connection there or has it split? Also where exactly should I look for this leak/pipe?
Leak into boot area from O/S tail light, you seem to be inferring that it is washer fluid, maybe I'm wrong. I'd guess that it is a problem with the light cluster to body gasket, I think that you can buy a repair gasket set from VW. One thing to watch out for is, when this area leaks, the retaining nut/stud get rusted badly and that can mean you end up ripping the stud out of the light cluster, not a big issue as after separating the nut from the stud, you can glue it back into the cluster, but have a working gasket will stop water getting into the car and into that nut/stud.
You can also buy a repair kit from VW if the water tube has seized up or broken off its plastic coupling, remember, the washer jet should always spray up vertically and not follow the sweep of the wiper arm.
Cheers for that, I'll have a look at the cluster gasket. The securing nut is ok as I changed a couple of bulbs a while back. As and when the car turns up, I'll get on with the job!
