Composition media or Navigation

Post by sudsonsundaze »

Hi to everyone.

Is there a negative side to getting the Discover Nav over the standard Composition Media? i.e settings, options, sound quality, the way it works with voice control if specced, auto volume at higher speeds, etc? Or is it basically the comp media with Nav integrated?

Anyone got an idea?

The dealers don't know

looking on the website it doesn't go into much detail, but if anyone on here has first hand experience of them?

Speaking to friends who have it, it seems to be the same apart from the nav. They do however warn the nav itself is a little bit poor compared to dedicated devices.

I've had my new SEL 1.2 TSI with Discover Navigation for a couple of weeks now. As others have said, it's Composition Media plus Sat Nav.

First impressions of the sat nav are good - it has been more accurate than the Maps and More sat nav that came with my Up. Not quite as good as the latest TomToms, though. Main thing I miss is the speed camera alerts! It's a nice big display, though, and it's really convenient not having to remove it from the car all the time :)

I'm going to go for it. One thing, does it have voice activation built in? As can see on vids and images it comes with the Voice tab or do you spec it separately?

In the links you provided, it shows the media having a 6.5 inch screen and the nav having a 5.8 inch screen. Very worrying as I've opted for the nav. :/

Don't worry, the 5.8" screen is on the Golf. The new Polo gets a newer "MIB II" unit which is 6.5" :-)

Phew,! Good to hear blackertracker! Still a bit disappointed that it's £700 just to add sat nav. Thought it might have some extra features. At least it will stop eating into my lousy 2gb data a month! Haa

Regarding the Voice tab on the this particular Nav, do you have to specify voice activation to use this? as there is also the button on the steering wheel as well. If you press that button on the steering wheel is that it ready for voice commands? anyone have this on their cars and can advise? don't want null buttons, like them to have a purpose.

You have to spec voice control(although im convinced its only a software tweak to enable )

Thanks for that. Guessing then they would fit the mic too and hard wire it in? Maybe best to order from factory as it may work out more expensive if not.

I think there's already a mic fitted for the standard Bluetooth phone preparation. So it probably is just a software update.
