Hi guys,
Hoping someone can offer some assistance as recently my drivers door has started making a metal clunking noise every so often when I hit speed bumps or on generally rough road surfaces. The noise sounds like as if the door isnt fully closed properly, although it is!
I read on other forums that putting some electric tape on the striker where the lock of the door latches on and using White Lithium Grease to pack the latch mechanism seamed to fix it for others but not in my case.
I have also taken the door panel off, noted nothing out of the ordinary inside, tried taking the metal panel off to get to the door lock but just couldnt reach it and gave up.
I heard that there may be some foam around the door lock/latch mechanism that may need replacement but as I say I just couldnt get to it.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this noise???

Re: Drivers Door Metal knocking sound
Are the door lock mechanism bolts tight?
Re: Drivers Door Metal knocking sound
Yes mate first thing I tried before taking the door apart was to tighten the 2 bolts that are visible which hold the lock mechanism in place. They turned a bit and are now as tight as can be, although the noise remains!
One thing I didnt think to try was to remove the plastic hole to the door handle screw to see if that needs tightening but cant imagine that being the issue

Re: Drivers Door Metal knocking sound
Have you tried taking the door card off and going for a drive to help pinpoint the noise?
Re: Drivers Door Metal knocking sound
It turned out to be the door hinge sending a creak through the metal panel inside the door. I usually keep the door hinges greased up but I guess as we have hit this warmer weather, they just started crying for another greasing.
Greased em up - creak gone!

Re: Drivers Door Metal knocking sound
Happy days. My wifes polo had the same issue, but only when opening and closing the doors
Re: Drivers Door Metal knocking sound
Yeah it seems to get worse and worse until it starts making the noise when your heavy braking and taking bumps. That's when it starts to sound like your door latch as its a rattle as if the door isn't closed properly.
One thing I took from it though was that you can wrap your door striker in layers of electrical tape and it instantly makes your doors close and open a lot quieter. I read it as a fix for my issue, it didn't solve the creak, but it certainly made the doors sound nice!
