I've had my 6C SEL 1.2 TSI for 5 weeks now and have started to notice a droning/resonating noise from the rear. The car has the standard alloys with Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres. The noise starts around 30 MPH and is worse on rougher tarmac. I'm wondering if it's tyre noise - I wouldn't expect it to be bearings in a new car.
Anybody else had this, or have any ideas?
Thanks...

Re: New SEL tyre noise?
the dunlops are known for being a bit noisy. the polo is a relatively light car and not as well isolated as a higher segment merc or audi.
i also experienced it with the sport maxx in size 205/55/16.
now i'm driving pirellis even though a different size (215/40/17) and I must ay it's more comfortable in terms of tyre noise.

Yep, I have exactly the same (see my previous post "Blue Gt Road noise" ) funnily enough I have Dunlop sport max tyres as well. Mine appears to come from the rear also.
Re: New SEL tyre noise?
Thanks - glad I'm not the only one. I've done a bit of googling and have seen a few other posts about the Dunlops and tyre howl.
Odd thing is that it doesn't happen all the time. I drive the same route every couple of days and sometimes they drone, sometimes they don't. Tonight it started at a point the road surface changed from new to old tarmac. I'll check the pressures tomorrow at the Shell round the corner...

Re: New SEL tyre noise?
Mine does same. Even after I changed from standard 16" alloys to 17" gti alloys. Seems to come from rear drivers side for me. I ignore it, hasn't caused any issues yet.

Re: New SEL tyre noise?
Is this unique to the cars built in South Africa - ie 5 doors, and on that note, does it say on the tyre walls where they are manufactured - just looking for reasons?
Re: New SEL tyre noise?
Mine is 3dr. Don't know where it was built
Re: New SEL tyre noise?

All 3 door RHS Polos should be getting built in Spain, or if you are lucky Germany on one of the Golf lines.
