Hi everyone,
Yesterday driving my 2013 polo bluegt and the steering wheel warning light came on and steering goes very heavy. Managed to get to were I was going and called THE AA out. He plugged his diagnosis thing in and it said voltage was to high and was intermittent, he then checked all the earthing points and disconnected the main earth on the right hand side of the engine and reconnected it and it cleared the code. About an hour later started the car and the light came on again! Any ideas as to what the problem is? Have booked the car into the garage.
Thanks

Re: amber steering wheel warning light
Sounds like an issue with the power steering (which I think is electric on these cars) - let us know what the dealer says.

Re: amber steering wheel warning light
I had the same problem last week. I lost all communication with the steering system.
It was the powersteering pump which also contains the controlmodule for the steering. I had it changed and problem gone.

The power steering on my 2013 Blue GT has now failed for the second time.
The first time (December 2014), the issue was (eventually and after much grief) fixed by changing the power steering pump. This second time (end of July 2015) it mysteriously righted itself just as I was lining it up to put it on the recovery vehicle. It has been at the dealership for three weeks while they try to get it to refault. Latest report is that they can't and the best they can offer is that I take the car back and wait for it to break down again.
Not happy. Very unhappy indeed. How has it turned out for others in my position?
Cheers
Mike

I had something very similar a number of years back on my 9N. Warning light and lost power steering. It turned out to be a poor earth and a 10 min fix.
