Hi,

New member here 1st post!

I have a 2004 vw polo 1.2 12v 3 cylinder with the check engine warning light on. I want to check the engine fault code with a bluetooth obd2 scanner, I purchased one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290997153449? ... EBIDX%3AIT and it didnt work so I am sending it back. I have ordered another one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B ... ge_o00_s00 hoping to have more luck. I have asked several suppliers of these devices and some say they are not compatible with my car. The one I tried already wouldnt connect to the ecu for some reason. I am wondering if anyone here might be able to give me any advice about these bluetooth scanners? Supposedly they are meant to work on all petrol cars newer than 2001. The second one i have ordered came recommened by an android application called Carista https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... os.carista. What I want to do is use a wireless connection to the cars ecu to read and investigate and hopefully clear fault codes. PC software isnt really an option for me as I have a linux PC with no cd drive so I was hoping to use android applications with bluetooth to get around this.

On a seperate note I reset my ecu yesterday by disconnection the battery for 3 minutes removing the negative battery lead, when I went to use the car the next time the electric windows which used to go all the way up or down with one touch of the button now wont do that, the windows will only move up or down if you press and hold the button. Is there a way to restore its original behaviour? Also I was wondering if any level of customisation can be performed using the obd2 socket? Like if I wanted the alarm to beep once when locking / unlocking doors? Or making the lights come on? That kind of thing..

Most of this software requires a windows PC - linux isnt really supported for ODB connections

The carista or similar software on your android device with a bluetooth dongle is probably the best option - they are quite good. I myself have one. It allows you to clear and read faults, and change certain settings


Youll need to press and hold the window switches down for 5 seconds after the window is fully down, then for 5 seconds when its fully up to reset it

The beeping youll only get if you actually have an alarm - it uses the alarm sounder for that feature. As for the auto lights, no your car is too old - this wasnt available till the new 6R/6C models.

Short of making the doors auto lock, there isnt a great deal of worthwhile stuff you can change.

Thanks for your reply Alex! I'm hoping this other Bluetooth scanner will work so I can read the faults. Just out of interest if you remember where you purchased yours could you post a link? Just in case this one I ordered doesn't work and if you have one you know works it would be easier to order that than try guessing to find another.

About the windows, that's a relief I can restore the original behaviour I will try what you said. The car has a factory fitted alarm so I might try and see if I can get it to 'chirrup' or what ever it would be called for the beeping. I think my doors already auto lock after a short while which is fairly handy, I guess more features is something to look forwards to when ever I get a newer car lol Thanks again Alex ☺

hi most bluetooth code readers wont work with our cars.
you need vag com software on laptop
